Well, F*ck Me Gently With A Chainsaw! ‘Heathers’ Is Coming To Off-Broadway

Came across this bit of news on Jezebel.com that states that composer Laurence O’Keefe (who won a Tony for his Legally Blonde score) and Reefer Madness writer Kevin Murphy have been hard at work on making a musical based off the 1988 black comedy Heathers. The musical will begin running March 17th at the New World Stages in New York City and will end September 7th.

Originally directed by Michael Lehmann and starring Winona Ryder (Beetlejuice), Shannen Doherty (Almost Dead), and Christian Slater (Alone In The Dark), the film tells the tale of a girl (Ryder) who kinda sorta tries to fit in with the popular clique only to be drawn to a rebellious, and ultimately murderous, hottie (Slater).

If you’ve never seen the movie, I highly recommend you go and find a copy. It’s highly entertaining and still an incredibly relevant commentary on what it means to be popular and the costs associated.

OT, but I’m totally stealing your line there in the title.

Not so off topic after all, I’m watching it again after probably more than 15 years and I’m having a blast – thanks for reminding us of such a cool movie!

My pleasure! It really is a classic. I actually owned the soundtrack at one point, haha!

One of my all time favorites. I have the British quad poster hanging in my living room and it inspired my love of black trench coats.
