Just a few days ago it was the 9th anniversary of Dimebag Darrell’s death. The Pantera/Damageplan guitarist had just taken the stage when he was brutally murdered by Nathan Gale, an ex-marine who had been dishonorably and was known to be severely schizophrenic. It was a murder that shook my world, especially since I was supposed to see Damageplan the very next night. This wasn’t a situation where a musician passed peacefully. He was taken away, ripped from a community that loved him dearly, a community that he loved back.
Immortal Guardian founding member Gabriel Guardian has released his own tribute for the fallen guitarist by performing the opening and several passages of “Cemetery Gates”, one of Pantera’s most known tracks. Guardian plays the keyboard while simultaneously tapping the opening solo on his guitar. He plays it effortlessly and it really is quite beautiful. Give it a view below.
