Newly Titled ‘Amityville’ Haunts Theaters In 2015; ‘Under the Skin’ Dated…
Dimension Films is going with a much simpler title for their next Amityville Horror entry, changing the formerly titled The Amityville Horror: The Lost Tapes to the nice and clean “Amityville” (it rolls right off the tongue!). They’ve also slated the found-footage haunter for release on January 2, 2015. Casey La Scala and Daniel Farrands has previously been attached to write and direct a showcase of the events after the time of the original “The Amityville Horror” book and movie through found footage dating back to 1976. In it, “An ambitious female television news intern, on the verge of breaking the most famous haunted house case in the world, leads a team of journalists, clergymen and paranormal researchers into an investigation of the bizarre events that will come to be known as The Amityville Horror … only to unwittingly open a door to the unreal that she may never be able to close.”
In addition, A24 will release the festival hit Under the Skin, starring Scarlett Johansson as an alien, in theaters April 4, 2014. Jonathan Glazer directed the sci-fi thriller about a voracious alien seductress (Johansson) who scours remote highways and backroads for human prey. Walter Campbell wrote the screenplay.
Filming is underway on The Invisible Man director Leigh Whannell’s Wolf Man for Universal and Blumhouse, which will be howling its way into theaters on January 17, 2025.
Deadline reports that Matilda Firth (Disenchanted) is the latest actor to sign on, joining Christopher Abbott (Poor Things), Julia Garner (The Royal Hotel), and Sam Jaeger.
The project will mark Whannell’s second monster movie and fourth directing collaboration with Blumhouse Productions (The Invisible Man, Upgrade, Insidious: Chapter 3).
Wolf Man stars Christopher Abbott as a man whose family is being terrorized by a lethal predator.
Writers include Whannell & Corbett Tuck as well as Lauren Schuker Blum & Rebecca Angelo.
Jason Blum is producing the film. Ryan Gosling, Ken Kao, Bea Sequeira, Mel Turner and Whannell are executive producers. Wolf Man is a Blumhouse and Motel Movies production.
In the wake of the failed Dark Universe, Leigh Whannell’s The Invisible Man has been the only real success story for the Universal Monsters brand, which has been struggling with recent box office flops including the comedic Renfield and period horror movie The Last Voyage of the Demeter. Giving him the keys to the castle once more seems like a wise idea, to say the least.
