Good news about The Purge 2 (aka The Zone), which continues to film for release on June 20, 2014. I really liked the concept of the first film, but was frustrated when they turned everything inward and kept it inside Ethan Hawke’s house. It felt like most of the interesting stuff was happening outside.

And outside is where we’ll go in the sequel according to actor Zach Gilford who told Fangoria, ““With the sequel, I thought they had a really great way to do a sequel because the first one took place in an upscale suburb with what happens to a family there when their security system doesn’t work. With this one, there’s none of the same characters, but it’s the same day of the year and it takes place in the city where there are no security systems and it’s just like a war zone where people are just trying to survive. So I thought it was pretty interesting to take that concept and to look at it from a different angle.

James DeMonaco returns for the sequel that also stars Frank Grillo, Michael K. Williams, Carmen Ejogo and Kiele Sanchez. It was also revealed that Carmen Ejogo, Zoe Borde, and Chad Morgan round out the cast. The first film took place in the future where a wealthy family is held hostage for harboring the target of a murderous syndicate during the Purge, a 12-hour period in which any and all crime is legalized.

Well, this is what everyone wanted, to get out into the world during The Purge. Now let’s see if they execute it well.

Sounds great. As for the 1st film, I read it was a home invasion film way before it came out, so I wasn’t surprised about it taking place in the house (it better if its a home invasion plot). Getting to see what happens on the outside in an urban area should be a blast. Looking forward to it.

    Yes!

That’s one thing that annoyed me about The Purge: they only showed the carnage on the outside with security camera footage, so we never got a chance to experience the mayhem and chaos. I get the point of the plot for being in the house with the claustrophobia and lessons of morality for saving the homeless man, but the real chaos is happening outside.

this should be good! it has a very good cast (especially Frank Grillo) and now that we’re going to be out in the world during the purge it should (hopefully) just what we wanted! :)
