I think hitchhiker horror is an underexplored subgenre of horror. Obviously you’ve got gems here and there like The Hitcher (I guess the beginning of Texas Chainsaw counts as well), but I could deal with seeing more of it onscreen. This trailer for writer/director Zachary Eglinton‘s new film The Poisoning indicates that there might be a good amount of hobo horrors to come. It also seems as though it has some fleshy, gory bits as well.
In the film, “three men road trip across America, where jealousy, paranoia and a menacing hitchhiker kick off a terrifying hell ride that spins insanely out of control.” The Poisoning stars Matt Mercer (Madison County, Contracted), Brandon Walz (who also co-wrote the film), Kalan Ray and Joanna Sotomura (Madison County).
You can go here to watch the whole film via Verizon Fios and Vimeo. It hits iTunes and Amazon later this month.
