Awesome ‘Oculus’ Trailer Bleeds Scares!

Relativity has shared the first teaser trailer for the Mike Flanagan-directed (Absentia, Ghosts of Hamilton Street) horror flick Oculus, opening in theaters everywhere on April 11.

Mike Pereira raved about the haunter out of the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival. From the producer of Insidious and Paranormal Activity, trailer unveils a mirror that slowly bleeds out as we’re shown terrifying footage from the haunter.

Ten years ago, tragedy struck the Russell family, leaving the lives of teenage siblings Tim and Kaylie forever changed when Tim was convicted of the brutal murder of their parents. Now in his 20s, Tim is newly released from protective custody and only wants to move on with his life; but Kaylie, still haunted by that fateful night, is convinced her parents’ deaths were caused by something else altogether: a malevolent supernatural force unleashed through the Lasser Glass, an antique mirror in their childhood home. Determined to prove Tim’s innocence, Kaylie tracks down the mirror, only to learn similar deaths have befallen previous owners over the past century. With the mysterious entity now back in their hands, Tim and Kaylie soon find their hold on reality shattered by terrifying hallucinations, and realize, too late, that their childhood nightmare is beginning again…

The film stars Karen Gillan (Doctor Who, Not Another Happy Ending), Brenton Thwaites (the upcoming Maleficent and The Giver), Rory Cochrane (Argo, Parkland) and Katee Sackhoff (Battlestar Galactica, Riddick).

    That looks AMAZING!

    If I had just come across this trailer, I would probably go “meh”, but because I’ve been hearing positive things about it so far and I know the what the movie’s about, I’m more excited to see it. I just hope every site on earth doesn’t start building this movie up to be so amazing and then my expectations are too high, resulting in a disappointment.

    i REALLY really want to watch this trailer but i (much to my surprise!) am not going to do so. i’m already sold on this film because i keep seeing (not sure if it’s the same writer on this site or different writers on this site) that it’s supposedly very scary(?) and/or very good!

    You’re not missing much, as it really is just a teaser. It’s a long shot moving in on a mirror on a wall that’s bleeding, fractions of “scary” shots from film out of context: kids screaming, blood spatter, etc. while a girl says a voice over rhyme about the mirror. I can’t help but feel like they’re trying to mimic The Conjuring’s success.

      @Baphomitt, thanx for the info/clarification! 🙂

    Not much in that trailer. Was kinda hoping for Katie Parker to show up in there, but I’m still SUPER freaking excited for this.

    I was looking forward to this movie until I saw the WWE films logo. Now, I will wait for it to come out on Stars. Thos movies are always so horrible.

    these trailers always get my hopes up, yet I am let down time and time again.

    Cheesy! Also the CGI blood looks terrible

  • Melontrolley

    fakeasslooking blood, demon child(to add to creep factor, but doesn’t really work), cheap visuals, hopeful sound effects, and he promotional poster looks like a cheap photoshop, I mean really? they’re goind for that? This trailer makes me feel like I want to pat the makers in the head and say “nice try, but this is a fail.”
