Finally, Fans Are Remaking ‘Resident Evil 2’ In HD!

A sleuth-like reader just pointed me out to something that I had to share with all of you, because if you’re a fan of old school survival horror games, you’re undoubtedly fond of Resident Evil 2. Some particularly talented fans have taken it upon themselves — since Capcom refuses to — to remake the popular horror game so it looks (almost) new.

It’s not entirely old school, as it introduces the over the shoulder aiming pioneered in Resident Evil 4, but other than that welcome addition, it looks like a very faithful adaptation of one of the greatest horror games of all time. More after the break.

Big thanks to David for the tip!

The developers are saying they are also implementing a classic fixed camera style as another camera option for this game. Which is a good thing, the 3rd person field of view in those videos makes me want to throw up.

And besides Leon’s model, this remake doesn’t look any better graphically than the original RE2’s pre-rendered environments.

Some people might call it an easy cash in or running out of ideas, but I wish they’d remake these games on current systems with updated graphics. I’m not talking an HD remake, I’m talking a full on remake. The first 3 anyways.

Now that we’re used to updated graphics, most don’t really go back and play the classics they love unless they have a new reason to.

I still play my old Resident evil games. I don’t give a flying fuck about graphics like all these gamers. I hope they do a remake of all 3…maybe an HD update for the REmake since it’s already a beautiful game. I think I might play RE2 right now. lol

The biggest problem there gonna find with Making Resident Evil 2 with a Resident Evil 4 Engine is the same problem Hideo Kojima had when he Remade “Metal Gear Solid” with the “Metal Gear Solid 2” engine which was “MGS: Twin Snakes”. The enemy base didn’t match for it to really work well. The enemy numbers were too small, and since you could actually aim The Cameras in the game could easily just be shot out turning the game into a Corny easy to beat game. So unless they added a ton more zombies and turned RE2 into a Shooting Gallery like 4, 5, and 6 the Newer fanbase that prefer the RE4 engine will still probably just find the came to be corny and stupid.

I believe that if they used RE: Revelations Engine the game would be a lot better. They could also add in more zombies with different characteristics. Instead of the same 4 or 5 zombie models they used in the original.

All I know is that RE2 was one of the first games I ever played, it sucked me into the world of horror. I would love a remake of the classic Resident Evil 2 with updated graphics. As far as the camera angle, I’m fine either way, I like over the shoulder sometimes and I also like the fixed angles. If they remake RE2 for PS3 I would be a very happy camper.
