[TV] No ‘Funny Games’ About Latest “Hannibal” Casting

Funny GamesMichael Pitt, pictured, is returning to TV in a major role on NBC’s dark thriller “Hannibal,” writes EW.

Pitt is playing the character of Mason Verger, an unstable wealthy patient of Dr. Hannibal Lecter (Mads Mikkelsen) who begins a dangerous cat-and-mouse game with the deadly serial killer.

The Mason Verger role will be introduced late in the upcoming second season, which finds FBI profiler Will Graham (Hugh Dancy) in prison, falsely convicted for Lecter’s crimes, while the doctor advises the agency on cases. Gary Oldman previously played an older version of Mason Verger in the 2001 Hannibal film, which is based on Thomas Harris’ “Hannibal” novel.

NBC’s Hannibal timeline precedes the events in the film and is also set before the events in Thomas’ “Red Dragon” so this is Mason how we’ve never seen him before.

Recently, “Hannibal” also cast Verger’s sister Margo, who is played by Katharine Isabelle ().

Other guest stars in season 2 include the return of Gillian Anderson as Hannibal’s shrink, as well as Jeremy Davies.

“Hannibal” returns Feb. 28. Here are seven scoops about showrunner Bryan Fuller’s plan for the new season and its creepy trailer.

Now this is interesting news. I am now officially excited for season 2.

Though Gary Oldman was brilliant, I was always sad about the lack of the former orderly/sister angle in the movie.

I am not only a fan of this actor and very excited to see a backstory of the Hannibal/Veger situation (which I cannot believe I forgot about while watching this great show) I am even more excited about Kathrine Isabel. I love her so much and I have always felt she needs to really break out. Maybe now?

At any rate, that is some great news for this show.
