Just over a month before its debut at SXSW (full line-up), musical horror comedy Stage Fright has been picked up for U.S. distribution by Magnet Releasing, the genre arm of Magnolia, says THR.

Magnet will release the film in its Ultra VOD program, launching it on iTunes and On Demand on April 3 and following with a theatrical release on May 9.

Described as Scream meets “Glee,” the pic “centers on a starry-eyed teen who is stuck working in the kitchen of a snobby musical theatre camp. Soon, however, a bloodthirsty masked killer enters from stage left and the carnage begins.

Fright is the feature film debut of writer-director Jerome Sable, director of the award-winning short, “The Legend of Beaver Dam.”

It stars Allie MacDonald and Douglas Smith, with appearances by Minnie Driver and Meat Loaf, and was produced by Ari Lantos and Jonas Bell Pasht of Serendipity Point Films.
