When the PlayStation 4 launched back in November, Sony Computer Entertainment CEO Andrew House set a goal of five million units sold by March 31, 2014. It was ambitious, but it looks as if that target was achieved six weeks ahead of schedule. Today, Sony announced the PS4 has sold 5.3 million units as of February 8th. Last week, the NPD confirmed Sony’s console sold nearly twice as well as the nearest next-gen competitor — the Xbox One — in the United States.
As we head into March, sales of the PS4 and Xbox One will undoubtedly improve as each console sees the arrival of their next big game. Titanfall is set to drop on Xbox One, as well as PC and Xbox 360, on March 11, and the PS4 exclusive Infamous: Second Son arrives on March 21.
