The ‘Stage Fright’ Trailer Gets a Standing Ovation!!!

Stage Fright

A Nightmare on Elm Street meets Phantom of the Opera meets Kabuki theaters? Yes please!

Jerome Sable’s musical horror comedy Stage Fright is now officially my most anticipated midnighter at this weekend’s SXSW Film Festival.

Magnet has released an absolutely epic red band trailer for the slasher that’s mucked in blood and laughs. By the time it’s over you’ll be giving it a standing ovation, guaranteed!

While it debuts at the fest, you won’t have to wait long to see at home: Magnet will release the film in its Ultra VOD program, launching it on iTunes and On Demand on April 3 and following with a theatrical release on May 9.

Described as Scream meets “Glee,” “Starry-eyed teenager Camilla Swanson wants to follow in her mother’s footsteps and become a Broadway diva, but she’s stuck working in the kitchen of a snobby performing arts camp. Determined to change her destiny, she sneaks in to audition for the summer showcase and lands a lead role in the play, but just as rehearsals begin, blood starts to spill, and Camilla soon finds herself terrified by the horror of musical theatre.

Fright is the feature film debut of writer-director Jerome Sable, director of the absolutely hilarious, award-winning short, “The Legend of Beaver Dam.” Allie MacDonald and Douglas Smith star with Minnie Driver and Meat Loaf.

Bloody mayhem, gruesome violence, and chaos? I’m in.

  • RubenVeritas

When I first heard of the project I thought it was a remake of the 80s classic slaher. The poster alone sold me on the film! This looks amazing!

If it’s part musical I won’t bother. Musicals are irritating.

    • djblack1313

@JoeR, i really dislike musicals too (GREASE is the only musical i like) but this doesn’t look like a straight up musical. it just looks like it’s set around a musical/rehearsals. but i could be wrong.

      Exit to the left :)

  • Samhain2010

This actually looks like a fun movie. One of the better cut trailers I have seen in quite awhile.

  • Blood-Sicles

That girl looks just like Jess Weixler. Movie looks freaking insane.

  • Mr.Mirage

Trailer looks interesting enough to pique my interest but doesn’t seem to give away the entire film. That, and “Bukkake?” Yeah, I’m in.

    • MachineGunGandhi

I dunno man, it looks like they pretty much gave just away the ending scene with her sawing the killer in half on stage and then having the curtains pull back revealing our blood covered heroine to a cheering audience.

  • Nurse Derpusheen

Im in :) looks pretty fanfuckingtastic

  • Baphomitt

Really wish they wouldve picked a different name. How’re you gonna make a slasher and use the same name as an already well known slasher?

  • Greenkali

    In, in, in.

Though we rarely come across a really good one these days, Horror movies are here to stay. And yes that’s a good thing. And this one looks like it could be one of the good ones. So yes, I will check it out.
