‘Only Lovers Left Alive’ An Incredible New Take on Vampires (Trailer Debut)

Easily one of my favorite horror films of the year, Jim Jarmusch’s Only Lovers Left Alive isn’t for everyone. While Ryan Daley wasn’t the biggest of fans, I found my self obsessing over the film’s beautiful simplicity, extraordinary acting (Tilda Swinton and Tom Hiddleston are out of this world), and real-life story structure. While it’s a bit “hipster,” it’s extremely powerful storytelling with strongly developed characters. Also featuring astounding sound design and score, this is a must-see in theaters…

The pic “tells the tale of two fragile and sensitive vampires, Adam (Hiddleston) and Eve (Swinton), who have been lovers for centuries. Both are cultured intellectuals with an all-embracing passion for music, literature and science, who have evolved to a level where they no longer kill for sustenance, but still retain their innate wildness.

Sony Pictures has finally released an official U.S. trailer that’s pretty representational of what you’ll see in theaters April 11. Enjoy an O-negative ice pop while you watch the trailer!

John Hurt, Mia Wasikowska and Anton Yelchin also star.

    Who’s Tilda Swanson?

She’s a solid actress who has been in many things. For a good head trip of a movie, check out ‘Orlando’ and she was Gabriel in ‘Constantine’ and the White Witch in the ‘The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe’.

Oh, wait, I see what you did there, and now I’m going to go and be a noob somewhere else. Derp.

As for this movie, my only fear is that it ends up being another ‘vampires aren’t all bad’ and ‘used to be human’ and ‘can still love’ because, dammit, I want a vampire film where vampires are jaded, blood-sucking immortals who realize that they are one up on the food chain and we are the meal. I feel like I need to go and watch ‘Near Dark’ again or maybe ‘The Lost Boys’.

Caught this at Sundance this year and while it doesn’t bring a whole lot new to the table, Tilda is pretty mesmerizing.

I liked this movie. It’s so openly arty and hipster that it’s endearing. It’s not a “new take on vampires” though.

I’m absolutely in love with this movie. When Jonathan put the news up about the vinyl, I had to order immediately and it came like 5 days ago! Damn, two red vinyls (for Detroit and Tangiers) and wonderfully tangled together with the images… Tilda and Tom are definitely out of this world!
