[TV] “Those Who Kill” Dies, A&E Pulls the Wrong Show…

People continue to support bad television…

News came in late Thursday that A&E has already pulled their new series “Those Who Kill” after only two episodes, while “Bates Motel,” which has become absolute trash (and I was a fan of the first season), continues forth with its second season. Why people support bad television is beyond me…

THR explains, A&E is pulling Chloe Sevigny drama “Those Who Kill” from the schedule.

The freshman detective drama based on the Danish format and inspired by Elsebeth Egholm’s books will be pulled from the schedule effective immediately. A&E will move sophomore drama “Bates Motel” back an hour, to the 10 p.m. slot, to replace “Those Who Kill.” A new time slot for the latter is to be determined later this week, as the network likes the show and has faith that it can find an audience. A “Bates Motel” repeat will air at 9 p.m. and lead into a new episode of the Psycho prequel.

Paired with the second season of the network’s critical darling “Bates Motel,” “Those Who Kill” opened March 4 to a lackluster 1.4 million viewers. That’s almost half of the 3.07 million viewers who tuned in an hour earlier for the debut of “Bates Motel’s” second season. “Kill” notched a 0.5 in the key adults 18-49 demographic — nearly a third of “Bates'” 1.6 million. Kill shed almost half its premiere viewers with Monday’s second airing, drawing 830,000 total viewers and a 0.3 in the demo.

“A new time slot for [Those Who Kill] is to be determined later this week, as the network likes the show and has faith that it can find an audience.”

Yup, that totally means that they killed the shit out of it. Good reporting.

  • part6productions

I disagree, Bates Motel season 2 has been pretty good so far, just as good as the first season. Why do you think it’s been trash? That’s harsh…

    • part6productions

if anything Those Who Kill was the absolute trash, people are supporting good television. How can this site support the absolute garbage that has been walking dead season 4, but call just 2 episode of Bates Motel trash, I just don’t get it.

      • djblack1313

part6productions, are you new to this site? this site (Mr.Disgusting in particular) trashes THE WALKING DEAD any and every chance he gets.

i agree w/ you though that BATES is awesome!

        • part6productions

I’m not new, to be honest I was basing that off of one article I read about the first half of the fourth season, wasn’t MrDisgusting who wrote it. Perhaps I was exaggerating in the heat of the moment lol. I just don’t know how someone could call this season of Bates trash only 2 episodes in. And I think they’ve been just as good as the first season so far, and I’m looking forward to the rest of the season.

          • part6productions

And I watched Those Who Kill, that wasn’t going so well. I had a strong feeling it’d get cancelled, but not after 2 episodes.

          • djblack1313

me too! i am really liking BATES season 2 thus far! and (as i said in my post below) they actually did the impossible and made Bradley (who i hated all during season 1) interesting! 🙂

        • mobstar67

DJ i am absolutely astounded the total disregard this site has for The Walking Dead…
Blows my mind that probably or arguably one of the best shows of our time…
very well done season after season…
meanwhile this site pimps for the VHS films which are amateurish at best..
          im stunned

          • feck

gotta agree with you on VHS. I watched the first one, and man, it was AWFUL!! One of the worst movies I have ever seen.

  • Jasonicus

I’m from the area this was filmed in and I still can’t support it. Those Who Kill is a terrible show. Bates still rules.

  • WineandWatch

I haven’t watched Those Who Kill yet (I have the first 2 episodes saved on my DVR) but as for Bates Motel, I do think it’s a really good show IF you watch it under the assumption that it’s a ridiculous soap opera. Don’t get me wrong, I completely enjoy the hell out of it; but that’s mostly because there are so many over-the-top laughable moments in it! Farmiga over acts so much how can you not be entertained? I was taken aback in the beginning of the first season because of it’s humor, but once I embraced it I kind of fell in love with the show.

  • divisionbell

I enjoyed the first season of bates motel. I have a hard time believing it became complete trash in 2 episodes. I wonder what the reason is.

  • Taboo

Not sure if you’re trolling or just mad.

  • lhcameron

Sorry MrDisgusting but i totally disagree. Bates Motel has been amazing so far this season. Its actually been an improvement. The biggest proof of this for me is the character Bradley whom i absolutely hated in Season One just because her character seemed so bland and “common” but in this season her character has seriously been revamped. And Norman and Norma’s relationship is really taking lots of twists and turns so far. So i adore this new season and hope it gets renewed for another… Those Who Kill on the other hand is lackluster thus far and doesnt feel like a show i can see going past a second season in my opinion.

    • djblack1313

lhcameron, SO TRUE!! lol. i hated with a passion the Bradley character (and i’m not really a fan of the actress playing her) in season 1 but they did the impossible and made her actually kind of interesting in season 2!

      • WineandWatch

Like I said in my comment above, I think the soapiness and over-the-top humor is what turns people off of Bates Motel, especially if they are expecting a horror series. Once I started watching it as a melodrama I fell in love.

As for Bradley, I agree. But the actress had to go off and film Transformers 4 so I’m betting she’s officially off the show.

I do not know what has happened to MR.Disgusting but he has lost his touch with the Horror Community. I have sat here and watch this site go to shit. Some may ask, Why am I still here? The sad thing is there aren’t many alternatives. Bates Motel is one of the Best shows on TV.Vera is AMAZING. We finally got a great actress playing an iconic part and you Shit on it. Gee, thanks for showing your support. If we take your advice we would still be watching Hannibal.I finally decided to make an account to stand up this new watered down trash of a site. Sometimes I feel Mr. Disgusting you throw anything on the wall just to see what sticks. You do not speak for us. You never will speak for us. The Genre has passed you by! If any fans of this site want to start a Real Horror Site, Email We can put our input together and build something strong for the True Next Generation of Horror Fans!!!

    • MrDisgusting

@Mindkilla Agree, Vera is awesome. But please tell me what has been so great about season 2? I loved the first season, except the finale, but haven’t found a single interesting arc in this new one. Hence why I said in previous articles that Im curious to see how the new family member fits in. I haven’t given up on it YET.

Not to get into any detail and to avoid Spoilers but as the comments suggested Bradley’s story arc is getting real Good. She is someone who Norman can relate to being all the troubles that he is going through now. They both kinda have similar situations. Another Arc is the aftermath of Dillon being involved not only with Bradley but being involved with a certain death regarding their rivals in the drug trade. And of course the new family member. And that is just the FIRST Two Episodes!!! It is Brilliant story telling and it’s getting you to the point that you will feel for the characters when something Major is about to occur. Also calling Bates Motel in this article and I quote “Absolute Trash” pretty much tells me you gave up on the season.

      • lilmarkuk

are you talking about vera the UK tv series

    • K-Dogg

I gotta add one thing to your comment Mindkilla….sorry, but Hannibal is fucking brilliant !!! The tone and mood is simply breathtaking, and it is quite possibly the best looking show (colors/way its shot) on television. I still need that “Millenium” fix, and this show is quite a bit like that. As for this article, maybe Bates could be better, but I still dig it. Vera Farmiga is absolutely amazing (did you see her sing at that musical—WOW)

      • djblack1313

K-Dogg, i agree that HANNIBAL if fucking awesome! easily one of the best shows on tv and definitely one of the best shows NBC has ever aired.

        • K-Dogg

          Giddy-up DJ, my thoughts exactly.

    • WineandWatch

While I do enjoy Bates Motel, I hardly think it’s one of the best shows on TV. But I do agree that Vera Farmiga is amazing (and hilarious).

That being said, how can you say that Hannibal isn’t good? That is one of the most visually interesting, well-written shows I have seen in a long time and I definitely think it’s better than Bates Motel. I’ve also really been enjoying The Americans this season. Not horror, I know, but Keri Russel is KILLING it this year.

      • K-Dogg

Fucking A…The Americans is one of my faves for sure my friend !!!! One more note , sorry, on Bates Motel… new character that I am looking forward to seeing where they go with him, is Zane (I thought Michael Eklund was sensational in The Divide). Great character actor, and excellent at playing a scumbag 🙂

        • WineandWatch

100% agree about The Americans! It just keeps getting better!

I too am interested in seeing how Eklund does on Bates Motel. I just hope he doesn’t get involved with the pot-dealing sub-plot. That’s really the only thing I get bored with on that show. Also, WHY hasn’t Emma been given anything to do this season?!?!

          • K-Dogg

I was wondering the same damn thing about Emma, they are taking a character that I really cared about, and diminishing her to nothing.

          • djblack1313

WineandWatch & K-Dogg (regarding Emma on BATES) i know right?! i hope Emma is going to get more screen time!

  • djblack1313

i can’t lie, i kind of like THOSE WHO KILL. lol. i’ll definitely check out the rest of the eps whenever they air. BATES is great fun. Vera Farmiga carries the show though. she’s a Goddess.

  • Filazafer

I thought the first episode of Those That Kill was nothing short of horrible. It didn’t develop any of the characters and just tried to grab people with shock value. I was one of the many who did not make it to Episode 2. The fact that it couldn’t bleed any kind of audience from Bates Motel fans tells A&E all they need to know. They had to pull it. Bates Motel knows how to develop characters. Like True Detective it works because it is much more about the central two characters than it is any kind of plot. And those two main characters have been brilliant from the beginning, especially Mother.

  • minya

I enjoy Bates Motel, never saw Those That Kill, I cannot watch anything that Chloe Sevigny is in, FUGLY, ooofahhhh! Good riddance!

  • WalkingDeadGuy

I like the show too, the only thing I will say is that the “marijuana” storyline is getting a little old.

  • Kwonkicker

What the hell are you smoking? Bates Motel is PHENOMENAL this season. Haven’t caught Those Who Kill, I was really excited for it.

  • Darkness69

I don’t really know, guys, but the first episode of Those Who Kill didn’t really draw me in. The serial killer references (the lecture, the pictures), poor character development – it’s all focused on shock value, as someone said before. I’ll give it another shot with the second episode, but I don’t believe much will change. I’m in love with Hannibal and the second season is AMAZING! I’d rather watch its re-runs than some new show, to tell you the truth!

  • scottyvoorhees

I personally think they should have left Those Who Kill alone. If you’ve seen the Danish originals they’re absolutely wonderful. A&E should just stick with what they know, not taking anything away from BATES. But this year so far is kinda lame. A&E should stay with their “First 48’s” and “Biography” stuff, and shit like “Longmire”. If any network should have redone Those Who Kill, maybe amc, who are killing it with The Walking Dead, and who need some sort of cop show since Low Winter Sun didn’t work out so well… or maybe Showtime… they need a new Dexter type show, since they ended Dexter’s 8 year run so horribly

  • DamienJohn

Bates Motel is just awful. Besides the two fantastic leads the show fits comfortably among trash TV like Revenge and Scandal. Littered with implausible narratives, cringe-worthy soap romances and awful excuses for suspense.

  • auntlisa364

i like this show. to me, it’s suspenseful and exciting and i hope it gets at least another season. give it a chance!
