Remember Compressorhead, the three-piece robot band that covered Motorhead‘s “Ace Of Spades”? Well, looks like they have some competition in the form of Z-Machines, yet another three-piece robot band. But Z-Machines has a little trick up their sleeves (sockets?): UK eclectic composer Squarepusher.
See, Squarepusher (aka Tom Jenkinson) is working with Z-Machine on a 5-track EP titled “Music For Robots”, which comes out April 8th in N. America (pre-order via iTunes). Jenkinson stated, “Part of the appeal of that music has to do with hearing a familiar instrument being ‘played’ in an unfamiliar fashion. For me there has always been something fascinating about the encounter of the unfamiliar with the familiar.”
Head on below to hear the track “Sad Robot Goes Funny”, which is a strangely beautiful acid jazz composition.
