[TV] Confirmed: “American Horror Story” Joins the Carnival

The Nerdist Writers Panel podcast just broke the news on the overall arc for the fourth season of FX’s “American Horror Story”, where seres writer Douglas Petrie confirms a carnival theme!

We just started season 4,” Petrie stated on the cast before confirming that the setting will in fact be carnival-themed, “Yes, it does not have a title. That’s the idea, very roughly that’s the idea.

The carnival setting has been rumored for some time now, even before the third season, “Coven” had concluded. After the early termination of HBO’s “Carnivale,” it’s kind of exciting to see a new genre series taking on the world of carnies…

The only other details at this time is that the series will take place in the 1950s and that Jessica Lange will return with a German accent.

VERY COOL! but i hope it’s not another case of the season starting out good/great and then ending (around the 9th episode) horribly. i hope Murphy will try to spend more time with the writing this time. Coven started out so good but it’s last 4 eps were complete disappointments/disasters. i don’t think i’ll ever get over the lame way they wrote out/killed Misty Day. Misty/Lily Rabe deserved better.

Agreed, Coven had a great build up but everything felt rushed towards the end. Very disappointing but I absolutely loved the season while it was good.

    • Darkness69

I agree too. That was a very lame and disrespectful way to off such a good character. The carnival theme sounds promising, so let’s see!

    • K-Dogg

same here, they haven’t finished a season up good yet (final 3 eps)

    • Taboo

      Agree with you all 🙂

  • DarrelDreadful

Looking forward to this! I really hope they take advantage of the Carnival theme and make the series dark again. Coven served its supposed purpose as being more fun I guess, but I hope they put more horror into the story this time.

  • Awesome! And I’m happy Jessica Lange is back for another season. She’s a great villainess.

And yeah, I agree. As much as I loved Coven, the quality of the show took a dive towards the end. Although, the downward spiral for the second half of Asylum is worse, IMO. Coven ruined big character deaths with SO many rushed resurrections in the second half of the season, & Asylum rushed too many character deaths in the second half of the season. Hopefully, the carnival season won’t fall into the same trap.

more horror less romantic comedy garbage. I think the overall opinion from most people is that they really shit the bed with the last few episodes of coven, even Asylum fucked up the ending with how the stupid angel killed the devil, imo. Both of the last seasons started out awesome but it was like the season’s ended and they forgot to write an ending so they just threw some bullshit together

  • WalkingDeadGuy

I can already see Kathy Bates as the bearded lady 🙂

  • Voorhees83

I just hate that this show packs in too many plot points and doesn’t really go anywhere with them. Just make it simple with more horror.

I am excited for next season though.

  • ThunderDragoon

Coven is my favorite season, but the finale didn’t feel like a finale to me. It should’ve been as big as the first 3 episodes. We’ll see how this season works.

We know where you live. We know where your loved ones are. Do NOT fuck it up. We will take our time with you and you will not like it.

*seriously, a Carnival theme? I have to go sit in my quiet place and rock back and forth for a while. Who will play the geek? Will James Cromwell be back as a ringmaster? Zachary Quinto as the bearded lady? WILL MICHAEL J. ANDERSON BE THERE? CLANCY BROWN????

    • Mr.Mirage

Okay, had to come back, been listening to Abney Park’s album The Circus At The End Of The World and Nox Arcana’s Carnival Of Souls… If (IF) BD has any voice, can catch any ear… we really want a scary, blood curdling, creepfest carnival from Hell. At the very least, Rasputina and Tom Waits should be on the soundtrack… although, for me, personally, them, Abney Park and Nox Arcana would be quite the thing…

God, I hope they write the last episode first and work everything into that direction… like maybe leading up to a nod to The Wizard Of Gore and the Grand Guignol…

      • Mr.Mirage

Tom Waits and Ron Perlman as conjoined twins, not from an accident of birth but a … series of unfortunate events. One plays accordion and the other a calliope.

  • Cole9678

I guess a carnival theme means clowns will be involved…sounds exciting

  • MinaDoll7

Awesome! Plenty of potential in a carnival! Creepy ass clowns? Fortune tellers foretelling some creepy ass stuff? Killer acrobats? Scary magicians? Weird “freaks”? Haunted rides? Ohhhh yyeeahhhh

  • Flash-Over

I really hope that Rabe gets to play something batshit again. She is by far this show’s strongest link.

    • Yeah, as far as AHS goes, Rabe was at her best with Nora character in season one, IMO.

  • Nurse Derpusheen

sounds sweet (pun not intended), I hope they get rid of the “yaya-yaya-yaya” thing they did when its supposed to be scary.
