Neo-Tokyo Is About To Explode As ‘Akira’ Gets Vinyl OST

akiratetsuobanner

Perhaps one of the most popular and revered anime titles in existence, Akira will always hold a special place in my heart. It’s one of the first animes I’d ever seen and, during my first viewing, I couldn’t believe that cartoons could be so violent and adult (I was seven years old, okay?). It blended beautiful animation with a deep storyline and featured a fantastic score that to this day fills me with apprehension and wonder.

Composed by Shoji Yamashiro, the soundtrack has been primarily available of CD and, even then, it’s been a long time since there was a substantial release. But now the soundtrack is coming to vinyl and you can pre-order it right here at the price of £19.79 (which is approximately $41 with shipping to US). The soundtrack is set to be released in early April, although no exact date has been set.

Oh, and you better believe I’ve already got my copy pre-ordered. KANEDA!!!!!!!!

I know I’m probably in the minority here, but I just couldn’t get into Akira. I had to watch it for an Asian Horror Film class while I was in college and I just don’t get. I understand the cultural significance and the time at which the movie came out but Akira just doesn’t do it for me. =/
