‘Prometheus’ Sequel Will Be More ‘Alien’-y!

PROMETHEUS_WETA_VFX_01

The second in a planned trilogy is finally gearing up for production…

TheWrap reports some exciting news Monday evening as 20th Century Fox has tapped veteran scribe Michael Green – who worked with Ridley Scott on a new Blade Runner – to rewrite Prometheus 2, originally penned by Jack Paglen (Transcendence).

Shooting is scheduled to begin this fall with a release of March 2016 in the cards. It currently doesn’t have an official title.

Prometheus served as an ‘unofficial’ prequel to Scott’s seminal 1979 sci-fi movie Alien, and the sequel that Green will write aims to be much more “alien-y” and in line with the terrifying tone of past films in the franchise, says the site.

Additionally, the sequel is expected to feature multiple ‘David’ androids, which means there will be more than one Michael Fassbender on screen at the same time, according to an individual familiar with the project.

I’m so excited! I know a lot of people didn’t get into it, but I thought it was a great start for expanding the Alien universe.

  • aphroditeboy

I can’t wait for the sequel. I thought ‘Prometheus’ was very thoughtful and engaging – it was structured to make us ask fundamental questions and set up an interesting origin story for both humans and the xenomorphs. I really enjoyed it because in terms of atmosphere and mystery, it really did compliment the original ‘Alien’ very well. Most of the tension relies on the fear of the unknown, and much of the original ‘Alien’ was unexplained as well – I think modern audiences just expect everything to be clearly laid out for them in detail and when it’s not they assume it’s from lack of development as opposed to a conscious decision on part of the direction and production team.

      You’re kidding right?

An incompetent science team. A moronic woman who dies trying to run away from a giant donut instead of to the side… there’s a list of a thousand problems with this movie, being ‘deep’ isn’t one of its problems.

This movie gives the illusion of being deep while the truth is, it’s a pile of shit. I hope for the sequel, I hope it’s good, I hope it’s not the movie Prometheus was that’s for sure.

      • K-Dogg

We definitely agree to disagree, as I loved Prometheus.

      • djblack1313

weresmurf, even though i DO like many parts/things about this movie, i agree w/ you that the script/story (including THE most bumbling “scientists” ever….who runs up and plays paddy cake with a vagina snake?! LOL) was frustratingly bad in parts.

      • Kwonkicker

        I agree 100000%

      • aphroditeboy

        @weresmurf No I’m not kidding.

I didn’t say it was perfect or ‘deep,’ and yes, if you want to dissect character motivations and personalities there are some inconsistencies. However, I can’t really think of a horror movie in existence where character’s do not function on some flawed logic. Bad decisions are part of what propels horror movies forward – action and consequence. Even in the original ‘Alien’ when they knew what they were up against they chose to follow the old ‘let’s split up’ routine. You’re more than welcome to disagree as you have already voiced, but in my personal opinion the semi-philosophical intrigue that the movie attempted to present was interesting enough to compensate for the usual stupid decisions that plague the characters of the genre.

  • railridden

Prometheus had everything except a plot that makes sense.

  • specialkrp

Cannot wait for this 1. I loved the 1st ones back story of the origins of the Xenomorph. There are still a lot of questions to be answered and I know the king of sci-fi will not disappoint.

  • TrackRecord162

Prometheus should of been more “Alien-y”!

    • morehorror4me

      EXACTLY.

  • ThunderDragoon

It better be, after that ending they gave us.

  • Evan3

@aphroditeboy – that was one of the best sarcastic posts I have seen in a long time. The abortion scene with he gif above was the only good thing about Prometheus (the acting was good, but couldn’t save that awful script).

I hope by being more Alien-y, they mean in tone only. Prometheus was really bogged down in far-fetched connections to the Alien series.

    • aphroditeboy

Except it wasn’t sarcastic and if you wanted to respond to me you could have replied to my actual comment instead of using the @ symbol in a whole new comment. You can say you disagree without attacking someone – maybe try that next time Evan3.

maybe ridley scott had to bear witness to the tragedy of star wars 1-3. So then fast tracked someone who could write in enough plot holes yet tie them to the original. Then he could go back and fully flesh out a much greater vision…maybe he could eventually give you more “alien – y stuff” and that way everyone would stop whining and bitching like c*nts and he could put out a movie with enough budget and intelligence to make his own self happy. also maybe there is just too many damned opinions these days. personally … i loved prometheus and i saw it three times. the visuals were amazing and my only complaint was what every on e loved…the “alien – y – stuff” seemed forced in.. but hey at least they quelled the bitching a bit.

  • Raven1417

Still haven’t finished watching Prometheus. The first 30 minutes shat me to tears with how woefully constructed it was that I couldn’t finish. It made any Uwe Boll film look like Schindler’s List. Also, based on what else I’ve read about the movie, it only gets worse.

So when they scrap Prometheus, hire some better writers and start again then I’ll be interested. Until then, no dice.

good riddance…did you really just make a uwe boll and shindlers list comparison. i bet your wearing leather pants and have a guitar u cant play in your hand.

    • hilljack

      lol.My thoughts exactly.

    • Raven1417

Indeed I did make such a comparison. For the sake of pointing out how bad Prometheus was in terms of writing, it needed to be done.

However, no I don’t own any leather pants but I do play guitar, have been playing for about 9 years now. But don’t let that stop you from being a douche who can’t figure out the simple concept of the “Reply” feature.

Also, if you’re going to attempt to insult a person then I suggest the use of proper grammar, punctuation and spelling otherwise you’re going to look like a complete and utter moron who would be more at home at a Jersey Shore casting call.

      • https://soundcloud.com/will-dotson-dmnm WILL-.-SON

jersey shore is the one with the brown guys , right ….im , prety white and i love the blacks. good gramor or not i – think you got my point. your comments seemed to be copied and pasted .. therefore …i made a gramorless tastefull joke at u r expe, nse. looks like i made my point. and your right i am an ut..ter moron in the eyes of the internet rightchous and utter foolish.

        ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,………………

und thanks to you i now know how to reply….cheerio

  • Darkness69

More than one Michael Fassbender – I like the sound of that!

  • Primeus

This is one of those movies I wanted to love but it sucked. It was beautiful, and the story could have been amazing but the script was terrible, and there wasn’t enough connecting to the Alien franchise IMO.

The script was just horrible, and never connected to make any sense. It’s one of those movies where stuff happens but it never gives any understanding as to why.

If they had been able to flesh out a bit better why the creators wanted to destroy us it could have saved the film…nah nothing could have saved this film. So much great acting, and beauty wasted on a craptastic script.

I actually do have high hopes for the sequel. It needs tones of more action, it needs to amp up the horror tone. It lacked all of the visceral carnage and shock value of Alien.

In a nut shell this movie was incoherent, the characters in the movie were all incredibly stupid, and overall it was down right boring.

  • Nurse Derpusheen

OH YAY! I loved Prometheus! and more aliens?! Fantastic!

  • djblack1313

i agree w/ many here. the script/storyline for the movie was HORRIBLE in many places. i’m sorry but there is NO reasonable explanation/excuse for the Millburn/vagina snake thing, etc, etc, etc.

that being said i DO like parts of the movie A LOT! the Engineers are freaking awesome and i’m very interested in learning more about them. the acting was very good (even though none of the characters were fleshed out) and of course the visuals are amazing. i didn’t even need or necessarily want the ALIEN connections in the movie.

the music was VERY ill fitting IMO. they kept using this one riff/piece of music (the one from the opening credits) that sounded more like it belonged in a Superman movie. it was TOO uplifting. the music should be more dread inspiring (for example the music used in PROMETHEUS’s trailers was spot on perfect).

i AM excited for this sequel though! i just have a feeling it’s going to be good/better.

  • wormlander

I believe Prometheus is the ballsiest franchise entry in the history of filmmaking. I absolutely love the fact that Scott chose to go all-in exploring the origins of mankind and life on Earth and not just simply posing the big questions like everyone else already have. I can’t even think of a bigger challenge, conceptually or visually, than designing an origin story for all of mankind. The sheer scale on which this has to work is really mind boggling and I personally believe that Scott hit it off with flying colors.

  • huntermc

I don’t think that the problem with Prometheus was that it was just bad, but that it had the potential to be amazing and then made several stupid mistakes in the script that seriously detracted from the movie. I’m hoping they’ve learned from their mistakes and the next film will be better.

  • joeshmo447

New site soo gay. It’s telling me I’m the first to comment on this but when I look it says it has 26 comments?? Wtf..

  • Jeff Rittenour

This one better be good ALL the way through and not just in parts… Prom was such a letdown… I still say make this the last prequel and then give us Alien V… Then they can reboot the shit out of it and our series will have concluded…before sigourney is 90. Can’t something happen to Noomi where she gets frozen for centuries and ends up battling with sigourney (kill W Ryder off in the first 5 mins) on the Engineers home world? Blowing them up once and for all?

    • Shit

I actually liked Prom… what are some of your issues with it? I say this because I am genuinely curious :) much appreciated
