[TV] Latest “Rosemary’s Baby” Promo Gives Birth to Fear

Fear is born in a second promo, the first with footage, from NBC’s “Rosemary’s Baby”, their four-hour miniseries adaptation of the 1967 best-selling suspense novel by Ira Levin. Zoe Saldana plays the new Rosemary.

Red Lights‘ Carole Bouquet, Doghouse‘s Christina Cole and Jason Isaacs also star in the series directed by Agnieska Holland and produced by Lionsgate TV.

It centers on Rosemary Woodhouse (Zoe Saldana), a young wife and would-be mother who, with her husband Guy (Patrick J. Adams), moves into a Paris apartment that has a dark past. After finally getting pregnant, she becomes increasingly suspicious that both her husband and their mysterious neighbors have ulterior motives about the future of her child.

C’mon, BD, Devil’s Due “gave birth to fear” too, right? There must be another tagline for horror involving pregnant ladies.

I am trying to be optimistic here, but I’ve never seen Zoe Saldana in anything memorable and this is kind of Mia Farrow’s definitive role – it’s hard to imagine anyone else being able to carry the role competently. Not that I think Zoe is incapable, just that Mia Farrow really did define how many perceive the character. I’m still rooting for this to be a good re-imagining, but I’m just going to have to clearly delineate the original and the new in my mind before watching it.
