It’s safe to start recording WGN America’s new series!

There’s nothing worse than getting hooked on a show only to see it get canceled before it even completes its first season. Thankfully, WGNA’s “Salem” is safe, for now. While I wasn’t a huge fan of the pilot, I did feel there was a lot of potential. I do want to see where the series heads. Check out a look ahead at the forthcoming season below.

According to Variety, the debut of “Salem” on Sunday night averaged 1.5 million viewers, according to Nielsen, including roughly 650,000 adults 18-49 — about seven times the network’s season-to-date average in the 10 p.m. timeslot.

During four combined airings on Sunday, “Salem” drew 2.3 million viewers, including 886,000 adults 18-49.

“Salem,” which re-imagines the infamous witch trials in 17th century Massachusetts, stars Janet Montgomery, Shane West, Seth Gabel, Ashley Madekwe, Xander Berkeley, Tamzin Merchant, Elise Eberle and Iddo Goldberg.

Christopher Landon (Happy Death Day, Freaky) is staying busy here in 2024, directing not only the werewolf movie Big Bad but also an upcoming thriller titled Drop.

The project for Blumhouse and Platinum Dunes is being described as a “fast-paced thriller,” and Deadline reports today that Violett Beane (Truth or Dare) has joined the cast.

Newcomer Jacob Robinson has also signed on to star in the mysterious thriller. Previously announced, Meghann Fahy (“White Lotus”) will be leading the cast.

Landon recently teased on Twitter, “This is my love letter to DePalma.”

Jillian Jacobs and Chris Roach wrote the script.

Michael Bay, Jason Blum, Brad Fuller and Cameron Fuller — “who brought the script in to Platinum Dunes” — are producing the upcoming Drop. Sam Lerner is an executive producer.

THR notes, “The film is a Platinum Dunes and Blumhouse production for Universal.”
