Creepy Children’s Show Gets Reimagined As a Survival Horror Game

Until today, I hadn’t heard of “The Trap Door”, and now I’m left wondering how its existence eluded me for so long. For the uninitiated, it’s a British claymation series from the 1980’s that followed a group of monsters who lived in a castle. Its target demographic was children, but because it leaned heavily on gothic horror and dark fantasy themes, the show eventually found itself a cult following.

Developer Aetheric Games has decided to reimagine the series as Trap Door, a mod for Amnesia: The Dark Descent that features original writing, voice-overs, a modified sanity system, multiple endings, and no lantern. I hope you’re not afraid of the dark.

For more on Trap Door, head on over to its website, and if you’re interested in learning why they chose this particular series to reimagine, you can read all about that here.

Don’t mean to go knocking before trying but, these people can’t possibly make it any scarier than the episode The Scunt showed up.

The Scund was genuinely terrifying. I couldn’t compete with that!

  • Loved this show as a kid, in particular Bonsey, the wise cracking skull.

Thanks for the write up! Just to be clear, the mod is called “The Trapdoor” whereas the cartoon that inspired the story is called “The Trap Door”. Hope you enjoy!
