The Canadian film division of eOne has acquired the horror pic Somnia from Oculus director Mike Flanagan, pictured, and sales agent Sierra Affinity, writes THR.
The Canadian distributor plans an early 2015 theatrical release for Somnia, “about an orphaned child, played by Jacob Tremblay, whose dreams and nightmares manifest physically as he sleeps.”
Kate Bosworth and Thomas Jane will play the child’s parents.
For those in the U.S., Relativity has gained the rights.
In other news, Blumhouse International sold the Canadian rights to eOne for Viral, which stars Sophia Black De’lia and Analeigh Tipton and will be directed by the Catfish team of Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman.
Viral is being handled in the U.S. by The Weinstein Co./Dimension.
Barbara Marshall and Chris Landon both worked on the script that “follows teenager Emma Drakeford, struggling after a recent family tragedy, who begins a video documentary about her life for a school project. Everything goes crazy when a terrifying virus sweeps through her small town, turning her friends and neighbors into vicious monsters. Quarantined with her family, Emma believes they are out of harm’s way but when the contagion finally infiltrates their home Emma and her family are faced with an impossible decision – if someone you love becomes a threat, do you kill them in cold blood or save them at the risk of your own life?”
