New Trailer Reminded Me Why I’m Excited for ‘Dying Light’

This action-packed new trailer for Dead Island developer Techland’s upcoming open-world zombie survival game Dying Light has taught me a few things.

For starters, I did not know you had a Batman-esque grappling hook that can be used to quickly reach rooftops. I also didn’t know there was a gargantuan zombie type that chases you, swinging its concrete pole hammer in the hopes of crushing your stupid, parkouring face in with it.

Oh, and it looks like there are child zombies to worry about now, too.

You can see all of these things in action in the video below.

Dying Light releases on the PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One in February 2015.

Were you a fan of Dead Island? Personally, I loved it. Can’t wait for this to come out.

    • Adam Dodd

I enjoyed the first Dead Island, but Riptide was pretty disappointing. This series frustrates me — it’s always had serious potential, but the way it’s been handled (with Riptide and Epidemic) is not the direction I would’ve taken the series.

I only played the first one. For as buggy as it was I really loved the gameplay and island setting. Disappointing to hear about Riptide and I wasn’t sure what to expect from the MOBA, Epidemic, at all. Hopefully dying light is a better successor for the series.

as a gamer newbie (PS3) i’m definitely planning on buying this! looks awesome!

Adam (or anyone) since i just bought PS3 what is the huge difference going to be between PS4 & PS3?

    • Adam Dodd

Oh geez. A lot! Off the top of my head, some improvements/features that were made with the PS4: it’s supposedly about 10x more powerful than the PS3, it’s easier for developers to make games for it (could lead to higher quality games), the games themselves look fantastic (noticeably better than PS3), it’ll have exclusives the PS3 won’t (InFamous, Killzone, etc.), the controller is a MASSIVE improvement over the PS3’s controller, livestreaming from the console, etc.

It’s also worth mentioning that as we move forward into this new console cycle, the number of releases the PS3 sees will begin to dwindle as more devs/pubs shift their focus to the new consoles.

Tesla Sledgehammer in this or it didn’t happen!

Adam, i am excited as well. Even more now that i saw this trailer. I don’t mind that it got pushed to 2015 as long as that means that it will be better. One thing that i noticed that has improved is the combat, when the very first trailers released i noticed that the combat looked like a copy and paste from the Dead Island series, just a bunch of swaying back and forth and now it looks a lot better.

    That looks so awesome.

  • Chandler Of-Adelaide

Yeah…I’m still not sold. Techland are sloppy developers and their games look atrocious in reality because they insist on using their own horrendous engine; Chrome.

  • I would love to explore this city! Parkouring my way with improvised weapons! Graphically looks outstanding! I just wish there is more interactivity with the environment – ps the zombie cannot catch you if you are behind a table rather than run over it!
