New ‘Resident Evil’ Details Reveal Title for Finale!

Forget eating dinner, Collider scored massive new details about the next installment of Resident Evil, which is tentatively titled Resident Evil: The Final Chapter (a clear reference to Friday the 13th).

The site caught up with franchise director/producer/writer Paul W.S. Anderson, who updates the status of the delayed production, while also revealing the potential title.

“Resident Evil: The Final Chapter is the working title. It may end up being the final title, but that’s what’s written on the front page of my script… I’m right in the middle of [the first draft].”

Anderson also confirms that he’s writing this draft as if it’s the final movie:

“That’s what’s on the title page, it’s Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, so absolutely.”

While the sixth and final film was to be released this September, Anderson did tell the site that there is still no start date as they have to complete the screenplay first.

Milla Jovovich is confirmed to return as Alice. The fifth film, the 2012 Resident Evil: Retribution, ended with Alice and co. taking a final stand at the White House. I’m excited to see this premise come to life – maybe they’ll even go to space?

You’ll find more over at the above link, including talk about filming the finale in 3-D.

  • Bouncy X

i surely hope thats a temp title but that aside, i’m glad its finally coming together. i know the fans of this series seem to be a minority but i am one, i’ve enjoyed the entire franchise this far and look forward to the end!

  • darkdomino

For the love of god just let this freaking die already. Capcom has already destroyed and humiliated the game series beyond recognition… now Anderson is continuing to destroy and violate the series with his godawful movies. Movies, I might add, that approach Uwe Boll levels of terribleness. Just let it die already. Just let it freaking die so we can never be reminded how awesome Resident Evil used to be, and how far it has fallen.

    • undertaker78

Oh give me a break they’re as bad as Uwe Boll movies. Have you actually seen a Uwe Boll movie? If so you would know that is a grossly exaggerated comment. Of course unless you’re trying to sound all hipster.

    • Because the games have become totally awesome since the terrible part 4, 5, and 6! You are right!

  • a very British hamster

Just as long as they bring back Kevin Durand as Barry! Somehow, even if it’s just a small part!

  • Nicolas Caiveau

I can’t wait ! I know these movies are ridiculously over the top B movies, but I find them to be highly enjoyable guilty pleasures.

  • MoriyaMug

I’ve always enjoyed these films as schlocky fun, but man… Afterlife was middling at best, but Retribution was fucking terrible. Easily the worst of the lot.

  • wnard-snellington

These are a total guilty pleasure. As it was already stated Afterlife was the apex, retribution was really disappointing hopefully they will go out on a high note.

  • Ahmed El Baz

Jesus fucking Christ . Someone kill it with fire before it reproduce.
This asshole of a director could not even look at the root of the original game to see what’s the story was all about and somehow he confused RE with the Matrix movie.
Where the Hell is George.A.Romero at ?

    • undertaker78

Q: Where the Hell is George.A.Romero at?
A: Making another overrated, shitty film like Survival of the Dead.

      • J Jett

undertaker78, so true! lol. Romero has made more terrible movies than he has good ones.

        • Ahmed El Baz

Romero is the god father for all things zombie. end of the story .

      • Ahmed El Baz

Romero’s shittiest movie can shit bricks at the best resident evil movie.

  • SaltSlasher

I want this timeline to end. But I want more. I like it. I love Milla and I love RE even more.

  • SmokeyJø

I will be sad to see this end…

  • Kris Gonzales

I really hope he (Paul Anderson) keeps making these movies because I find it hilarious to see the fanboys whine and complain about it not being like the games. Obviously we don’t know what the words “Based on” or “Adapted from” really means. I love the games, LOVE THEM. But do I want to see what I’ve already witnessed and played rehashed on the big screen? Um, no. I love the Alice character and I love that Milla has played her so well. The movies may have gotten a little lackluster, but they are always enjoyable fare. Here’s a tissue to the fanboys. I hope they keep making you cry.

    • Bear

Haha I know right. “Mustn’t divorce the sheets MUSTN’T DIVORCE THE SHEETS.”
It’s a different universe guys, let it go.

    • undertaker78

I feel the same way Kris. The whiners are still going to be the first people in line and then b!tch for the next twelve years how Anderson ruined Resident Evil and George Romero would have been its savior.

    • Scott Say

Omg someone who knows what they’re saying?
In the off chance you meet someone who says the films should have been as close to the games as possible, you should point out the scripts were written before the Gamecube remake or Resident Evil Zero were released so it would have been impossible to get much of the facts of back story right anyway :p

  • ThunderDragoon

Hopefully we can finally get that reboot after this. I actually enjoyed the first 2 RE movies, but they went downhill after that. I’m ready for a true adaptation of the first or second game.

    • Scott Say

There’s no defined amount of how much an adaptation has to borrow from its source material. What even is a “true adaptation”?

      • Sick_skwerl

Well, I’d figure he meant that something that followed the story of the game without adding random irrelevant characters and a lot of slow-mo “I wish I was The Matrix”-bullshit, and made an actually scary movie instead of a wannabe summer action flick.
Correct me if I’m wrong, though, ThunderDragoon.

        • ThunderDragoon

That’s exactly what I meant. Thank you. 😀

        • If they start adapting faithfully the games we will reach the matrix bullshit anyways.

  • Evan3

Its news like this (RE coming to an end) that proves there IS a god!

    • undertaker78

Nobody’s forcing you to watch them.

  • Sick_skwerl

Resident Evil movies are the same as the Transformer movies- mindless popcorn poppers that are all CGI action with no meat on the bones. Not that it’s a bad thing, I’m just saying, people defend these movies like (as shown in the comments) you called The Shining [or insert classic here] a piece of garbage. Entertainment is entertainment; not quantifying it.
Berate me all you want, I just can’t believe that people have such a hard-on for a series that i have shrugged off as easily as the Alien vs. Predator series of run-and-gun and “fuck everything good about the source material”.
Resident Evil movies are fun the same way that the 90’s Super Mario Bros. with Leguizamo was fun.

  • I still love the REsident evil franchise. Anderson has a good taste of making over the top action flicks although the first entry is by the far the best and the most atmospheric. Having said that, the whole series has given us some great set pieces- corridor laser trap, corridor zombie fight in Retribution, and the 3D fight in the prison showers are cool! What more do I want than watching Milla kicking all types of ass? Did not we do that in the 80/90’s with Arnie, Sly, Bruce and now with Statham?

    • REC03

ur classmate’s aunt is a whore.

    • Krug09

Can you wash the shit stains out of my underwear?

    • Chris J Arnot

Oh yeah that’s the gaping hole website right?

  • REC03

they need to go back to the claustrophobic atmosphere of the original. the last one was non-sop action that wasn’t exciting because i didnt care about the story…or lack of one.

    • Waveboy

The original was pretty decent! I loved the atmospheric and immersive synthasized score. The sequels however were awful. Still 2 & 3 are masterpieces compared to after life and retribution. The first 3 were fun, but the last two were just a complete waste of time. Forget about if they’re faithful or whatever to the games, they’re just terrible movies that use dated 1999 Matrix ripping effects, but manage to do them 10x worse. I can’t stand slow mo…Paul W Anderson still seems to think think it’s the shniz.

  • REC03

also i can’t help but root for Paul. he is a horrible script writer but he seems like such a nice guy and he is such a fanboy. he is a decent director he just really needs to stop writing his own films.

  • Knowing that RE movies would be about 45 minutes long if they didn’t have any slow motion in them, I think we can safely assume that filming will begin very, very soon.

  • magnus dissmoll

ehh.. just don’t care about this anymore. will probably watch it on a hungover sunday if at all.

  • marklola12 .

I think idiots need to finally get over the fact these are not identical to the games THANK GOD because for me they would be pretty dull and boring
I like the movies, great action flicks

  • James Daniel Massey

Well, at least it’s the last one. The first three were very good but then they lost it with Afterlife. And I almost couldn’t finish watching Retribution. I’ll most likely see the last one and maybe it’ll be good but I’m not getting my hopes up. I really hope they start over on the franchise and do it the way it was originally meant to be when George A. Romero was hired to do the project. His vision was more simple and had the old-school horror feel.

    • Chris J Arnot

Should have just left it with George A the entire time.

  • Francesco Falciani

i think it won’t be out in 2015…he’s still writing it!!! Damn!!!

  • Maxime C

It’s funny how he uses the word “writing”.

  • Saren Nevac

The only movie series where a reboot would be welcomed.

  • Taboo

    Can’t wait to see it

  • Krug09

Can you believe this series has run for 13 years by the time this comes out? It should have ended after the first and rebooted.

  • Lana Del Gay

    Anything but “The Final Chapter”

    • Adam Clifton

How about Resident Evil: Rise Of The Final Chapter

  • Christensen

  • Luminara Unduli

as it is the final one will they introduce Rebecca Chambers?

  • Cameron Rogers

Hopefully Claire and Chris return. Their unexplained absence in retribution was odd.

    • disqus_Qe6wWzhHWx

It’s been reported that Wentworth Miller is returning for The Final Chapter.

  • zzgelo

    Cant wait!
