From zombies to ghosts, THR reports that Warm Bodies‘ Cory Hardrict has joined Legendary Pictures’ sci-fi thriller Spectral, starring James Badge Dale and Pacific Rim‘s Max Martini.
Nic Mathieu is directing the film, which centers on a special-ops team that fights supernatural beings who’ve taken over New York City.
Ian Fried wrote the original treatment, with the George Nolfi-penned screenplay getting a rewrite from John Gatins.
As previously reported, the premise of the project is centered on a modern-day, militaristic and gritty approach to fighting the supernatural. Sources say the pitch has been described as a darker and more serious take on a Ghostbusters-like story, with a plot that revolves around a special ops group formed to bring down evil ghosts that have taken over Manhattan.
Legendary’s Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni will produce, with Jillian Share and Guy Riedel serving as executive producers. Sophia Sikora will also oversee the film for Legendary.
