Prog Sphere Wants Bands For Their First Ever Physical Edition Of ‘Progstravaganza’
For the past four years, Prog Sphere has been releasing a compilation entitled Progstravangaza, which has seen 19 volumes (the 20th will be coming out soon) that showcased over 430 bands and has been downloaded over 50,000 times. Now, after this stretch, Prog Sphere is aiming to bring this series into the physical realm with the first ever CD and they’re looking for the right bands to make the cut!

Prog Sphere invites unsigned bands from all around the world to take part on the physical Progstravaganza edition. In addition to the feature on the sampler, the selected bands will receive special treatment on Prog Sphere’s main website through interviews, reviews, special articles, podcasts, radio features, lyric/photo videos, streamings, advertisements and more, with exposure of 2M views per month.
Bands are encouraged to submit “…a download link of the up to 7 minutes long song aimed for the sampler, short biography and links,” to info@prog-sphere.com for their chance to appear on the CD. There will be a fee for entries that qualify. More information can be found here.
I’ve been a huge fan of the prog rock genre for years and I see how difficult it can be for bands to get their name out, so it’d be amazing to see bands get the opportunity to reach a wider audience. I don’t know what the fees are like, however, so that kind of raises some questions. Still, you can’t beat that kind of exposure to the right crowd.
It’s a new day, and you’ve got new John Carpenter to listen to. John Carpenter, Daniel Davies and Cody Carpenter have released the new track He Walks By Night this morning, the second single off their upcoming album Lost Themes IV: Noir, out May 3 on Sacred Bones Records.
Lost Themes IV: Noir is the latest installment in a series that sees Carpenter releasing new music for John Carpenter movies that don’t actually exist. The first Lost Themes was released in 2015, followed by Lost Themes II in 2016 and Lost Themes III: Alive After Death in 2021.
Sacred Bones previews, “It’s been a decade since John Carpenter recorded the material that would become Lost Themes, his debut album of non-film music and the opening salvo in one of Hollywood’s great second acts. Those vibrant, synth-driven songs, made in collaboration with his son Cody Carpenter and godson Daniel Davies, kickstarted a musical renaissance for the pioneering composer and director. With Lost Themes IV: Noir, they’ve struck gold again, this time mining the rich history of the film noir genre for inspiration.
“Since the first Lost Themes, John has referred to these compositions as “soundtracks for the movies in your mind.” On the fourth installment in the series, those movies are noirs. Like the film genre they were influenced by, what makes these songs “noirish” is sometimes slippery and hard to define, and not merely reducible to a collection of tropes. The scores for the great American noir pictures were largely orchestral, while the Carpenters and Davies work off a sturdy synth-and-guitar backbone.
