Who Are Horror’s Most Badass Villains?

Horror isn’t just full of badass survivors, people who will do anything to make it through a violent, terrifying situation. Sometimes the most interesting and exciting character is the villain, the person who is causing all that chaos in the first place! So what better way to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon than figuring out who might be the most badass amongst them?

Now, I could go with some pretty obvious choices, such as Jason or Freddy, but what fun would that be? Instead, I decided to go with some villains that might not get as much attention. Check out a few of my choices below and and then let me know some of yours!

Trick R Treat – Sam

Y’know why I love this little pumpkin-headed terror? Because he’s all about Halloween. You abide by the rules of one of the greatest holidays ever and you’re fine. But the second you break even a single one, you’re going to die in one of the most horrific ways imaginable. Plus, he gets creative with his kills. Maybe some dismemberment, maybe stabbing someone with a broken lollipop, maybe summon the ghosts of murdered children… It’s all gravy for him!

  • Boonraiser

    Patrick Bateman from American Psycho.
Marlow Roderick from 30 Days of Night.

Not really horror but Tim Curry’s Darkness character. Always loved his look as a kid.

    • JonathanBarkan

I love you right now. I was going to put Darkness but I knew that people wouldn’t accept it since ‘Legend’ doesn’t fall under the horror genre. Still, he’s the most badass looking devil I’ve seen in cinema!

      • Shame he died like a bitch in the film. He deserved his own epic battle scene!

    • Chrissie-Watkins

Yes! The Darkness character in Legend is SO scary! The swamp witch, too. I can’t believe I was allowed to watch that when I was a kid.

  • VictorCrowley

    Hail Victor!

  • ThunderDragoon

    The Creeper, definitely.

  • Seal Clubber

Can the Alien Queen be called a villain? Villain to me means a bad guy (or creature) who is doing bad / evil things on purpose. They are aware that what they are doing is wrong.

To me, the alien is more like a bear or a shark. It is a force of nature, with no more morality than a tornado or maple tree. It does what it does based on instinct.

Scary? Yup. But not a villain.

    • volleyjacket

Hmm.. you may be on to something. In that case, Burke would likely be the truest villain from Aliens, but he was hardly a badass.

  • Lars Hagman

    Pinhead is the ultimate.

    • Beat me to it.

  • Maybe not the best, but an underused and underrated villain is the one from “Blood Creek”. That character has potential. Also, Mahoney from “Midnight Meat Train”.

    • And does “Hannibal” count as horror?

    • Darkness69

Mahoney was awesome. Such an underrated movie.

    • Kori Batchelor

I believe his name is actually Mahogany…and I agree. Great villain.

  • Darkness69

The Wishmaster – I always liked that character. “Make your wishes!” And that great voice of Andrew Divoff!

  • Fantasma George

I’ll go with ‘Beavis & Butt-Head’ from Funny Games.

They got the good looks of Michael Pitt, and (subjectively, also spoilers) the reality-altering powers of Freddy Krueger.

  • Amnesiac Kid

    • ohitsmerenz

      I second this

    • it doesn’t even die with fire. We need something nuclear

    • PedJun

Yeah, Beyoncé FTW… Although Miley Cyrus also gives me the chills…

  • ohitsmerenz

    Chuky is badass…right? RIGHT?!

  • Golic

    Mick Taylor, Predator

  • AtomicSwirl

My vote is for the alien creature from John Carpenter’s The Thing.

  • 1. The alien Queen
    2. Otis from The devil’s rejects
    3. Nomak from BLADE 2

  • IrmaWClark

Amber implied I’m blown away that people can profit $5270 in four weeks on the
computer . you could try this out Jam20.COM

  • Chrissie-Watkins

I mean, Freddy gets you in your dreams. You have to sleep, right? Plus, that means he doesn’t even have to kill you in a way that is actually possible in real life.

  • SuperKilla

Somebody already beat me with Wishmaster but I will also go with
    Severen from Near dark,
Harry Warden the miner from My Bloody Valentine,
    Tall Man from Phantasm
Eddie the werewolf from The Howling
Those little bastards from The Brood
    Marcus from Underworld 2

    • Skrub Tre

Definitely with you on the Tall Man

  • gwen brown

It is her ovipositor, not her “womb”. And she is the badassiest of the badassed villians, but no one is a bigger badass than Ripley.

  • Spence33

Ben Willis from I Know What You Did Last Summer.

  • joeshmo447

The collector! He’s smart, twisted (putting bugs in someone’s stomach) , and has pretty creative ways to kill people

  • Un Gsund

Sutter Kane.. and kayzer soze-not horror but still an evil dude 😀

  • Michael Dominic Mayberry

I have to go with Hannibal Lector. Doesn’t have brute physicality nor an intimidating appearance, but doesn’t require either one. His unbelievable intelligence make him a threat to anybody around him. How he was able to obtain that one officer’s address in prison is an example of him being able to find out anything about anyone he needs to. Plus his brilliant escape from prison. Scariest thing? It is possible for someone like this to walk among us, especially considering he was in fact based on a real doctor.

  • Vingorious

Umm those fucking children of the corn kids. Psychopaths.
