RIP Dick Smith, the Godfather of Make-Up Effects
My sister-in-law texted me late last night informing me that special effects legend Dick Smith had passed away. He was 92.
Known for working on films such as Taxi Driver and Godfather, Smith will always be remembered to us horror fans as the man behind the terrifying The Exorcist, Ghost Story, The Hunger, Altered States, The Sentinel, Starman and Scanners.
He won a 1985 Academy Award for Makeup for his work on Amadeus and received a 2012 Honorary Academy Award for his career’s work, Wiki adds.
FX artist Rick Baker (An American Werewolf In London) stated, “There’s never going to be another Dick Smith. Dick is, without a doubt, the greatest makeup artist who’s ever going to live.”
I haven’t seen the actual report on his passing, but it appears he lived a long and happy life.
