My sister-in-law texted me late last night informing me that special effects legend Dick Smith had passed away. He was 92.

Known for working on films such as Taxi Driver and Godfather, Smith will always be remembered to us horror fans as the man behind the terrifying The Exorcist, Ghost Story, The Hunger, Altered States, The Sentinel, Starman and Scanners.

He won a 1985 Academy Award for Makeup for his work on Amadeus and received a 2012 Honorary Academy Award for his career’s work, Wiki adds.

FX artist Rick Baker (An American Werewolf In London) stated, “There’s never going to be another Dick Smith. Dick is, without a doubt, the greatest makeup artist who’s ever going to live.

I haven’t seen the actual report on his passing, but it appears he lived a long and happy life.

Horror movie fanatic who co-founded Bloody Disgusting in 2001. Producer on Southbound, V/H/S/2/3/94, SiREN, Under the Bed, and A Horrible Way to Die. Chicago-based. The project for Blumhouse and Platinum Dunes is being described as a “fast-paced thriller,” and Deadline reports today that Violett Beane (Truth or Dare) has joined the cast.

Newcomer Jacob Robinson has also signed on to star in the mysterious thriller. Previously announced, Meghann Fahy (“White Lotus”) will be leading the cast.

Landon recently teased on Twitter, “This is my love letter to DePalma.”

Jillian Jacobs and Chris Roach wrote the script.

Michael Bay, Jason Blum, Brad Fuller and Cameron Fuller — “who brought the script in to Platinum Dunes” — are producing the upcoming Drop. Sam Lerner is an executive producer.

THR notes, “The film is a Platinum Dunes and Blumhouse production for Universal.”
