Iowa-based metal act Slipknot has released a brand new song entitled “The Negative One”, which can be streamed on their official website. It is the first single from the band’s upcoming as-yet-untitled new album, which is expected to be released this fall via Roadrunner Records.

The band’s last album was 2008′s All Hope Is Gone, which has been certified platinum and garnered several award nominations.

In an interview with The Pulse Of Radio, vocalist Corey Taylor stated:

“The album is done. Everything’s done. Right now we’re just, we’re getting the artwork together, we’re getting all the other accouterments together, and it’s feeling really, really good. We’re just stoked, you know. Now it’s like, ‘Okay, we need to hurry up and get it out,’ you know. So yeah, we’re really excited.

Awesome song! I know this is not the final recording, but still seems like something is missing. In my opinion, I think it’s definitely lacking Joey on the drums.

    • Chandler Of-Adelaide

I got that as well. The drums are heavy and full on but lacking. And before any drummers get in here and rant. No, Joey was not some drumming god, but he was fast and loud and had a definite style that suited Slipknot’s music and it’s something that sticks out as missing here.

I actually think Joey is one of the best drummers in metal…and they fired his ass. Still wondering why.

        • Chandler Of-Adelaide

Since it’s still being kept hush hush it was probably alcohol or drugs.

Pretty much what I’m thinking, but they make it sound so permanent considering lawyers got involved. I would think the correct thing to do would be shun Joey for the current album cycle as a lesson.

I thought it was lacking melody

Sounds amazing. I personally think the drumming is great, but I anticipated people would react to the first Joey-less song released. It was always going to happen, but I’m happy with the way it sounds to be honest. Back on form.

wow this certainly surprised me a bit. I used to listen to these guys all the time when I was younger and kinda stopped listening to them as their newer albums got a bit softer but they were still good in their own rights. however this song sounds like a mix of the first two albums which is good!

I like the return of the old sound, but I don’t particularly like the song.

Sounds like a B-side filler off their self-titled album. Not a terrible thing to be, but hope that’s not the “single”. (I know, singles suck, blah blah blah…)

It’s supposedly sped up slightly to avoid Youtube’s copyright. Go to their website to hear the real song. Sounds better.

This isn’t the original version. It’s supposedly sped up slightly to avoid Youtube’s copyright. I thought something sounded slightly off about it. Go to their website to hear the real song. Sounds better.

Awesome new track! Love it, has an Iowa kind of tone, which is their best album IMO. The video was cool, I dug it. Thank you, really looking forward to this new album now. Their last two have major weak spots, I pray this album will live up to their earlier work.
