Don’t Expect An ‘Evil Dead 2’ Anytime Soon…

Jane Levy Evil Dead

In the Fede Alvarez-directed 2013 remake/sequel Evil Dead, Jane Levy was introduced to horror audiences as Mia, a complimentary female version of Ash (played by Bruce Campbell). They were rumored to come face-to-face is a potential sequel, which was announced at the 2013 SXSW Film Festival where the film premiered.

Now, more than a year later, Sam Raimi announced at the San Diego Comic-Con that he and his brother are developing an “Evil Dead” television series, which would star Campbell as Ashley J. Williams, loyal S-Mart employee.

What does this mean for the long-gestured Evil Dead sequel? According to Levy, it probably won’t happen.

I don’t think they’re gonna make it,” she tells AITH. “I mean, they’re always coming up with a new thing- now I hear they’re making a TV show. I was like, what? [Laughs]

I honestly don’t know,” she continued, “but it doesn’t seem like there’s going to be an EVIL DEAD 2 anytime soon. At least, not with me in it.

Something of important note is that she acknowledges that Raimi and company enjoy fucking with us. No joke.

I think they just like exciting their fans and confusing them.

Sure, poke a bear, see what happens.

As annoying as that may be, at least we know Raimi isn’t sitting around twiddling his thumbs. He knows we want more Evil Dead and he’s doing what he can to deliver. My assumption is that he’s busy with Army of Darkness 2, which would have nothing to do with Mia’s character. If they ever decided to continue the story, only then would Mia and Ash collide.

Not at all interested in Army Of Darkness 2 or the TV show. Only films I truly liked were the original and the 2013 reboot. I think it’ a big mistake for them not to do a serious follow up to it. Oh well.

    • Anthony Gulino

I’m one of the few people who actually stumbled into the theater and saw Evil Dead on its first run back in 81. I left the theater truamatized to say the least..
As one of my all time favorite films I have to admit I was skeptical of the reboot.
Ive since watched it about a dozen or so times and loved every minute of it.. I consider it to be one of the best reboots around along with Zach Snyders DOTD… I’m hoping that Fede gets another crack at this thing, I’d like to see what he cooks up next…

    • J Jett

Khy, (as usual!) i agree w/ you 1000000000%! every word. i couldn’t care less about Army Of Darkness 2 or the TV show. but i’d be there first show, opening day for EVIL DEAD 2 (w/ Jane’s Mia).

  • RidleyScottIsADirector@gmail.c

    My Lord.

  • I_chose_the_impossible

I guess this means the remake/original Evil Dead crossover they were also hyping up is dead lol

  • uabefu

I couldn’t care less about an Evil Dead tv series or AOD 2. Just continue the reboots story! I mean come on it has tones of potential the way it ended.

Ugggh i am so mad right now! The need to continue Mia’s story

    • J Jett

uabefu, WORD.FOR.WORD. i agree w/ you. i’m not interested in the TV show and i’ve never liked AOD. i loved the remake/reboot and that is what i’d love to see.

      • uabefu

YES! I need to know what happened after Mia left. So many stories to be told

  • Kroork

The remake ended up being my favorite movie I all time. Like, ever! So this news is dreadfull to hear. I need a remake sequel, not an army of darkness 2, and definitely not a tv show. I want jane…… Kicking some deadite ASS!

  • Maxime C

    TV is ruining horror movies.

  • arthurfilg

All I care about is a Director’s Cut of the remake..which is nowhere to be freaking found.

  • I’m to a point that every horror based TV show is more of a drawn out soap opera. It’s getting very redundant.

  • Anthony Gulino

network Television horror-lite is just not for me…
If its done right lets say on a premium channel that will put the money for a proper production and pay a respectable level of talent it stands a chance to be decent…
I’m not saying all non premium horror based shows are bad, I happen to like what I’m seeing in The Strain right now.. However something like “Evil Dead’ cannot have the restrictions associated with network television.. Possibly FX or AMC but IMO the only way this could be successful is for a network like HBO or Showtime to produce..Otherwise I’d rather not see it all…
    with all respect..

  • The Black Cat Horror Blog

    Well. That. Blows.

  • REC03

i liked the remake. i feel like they should get on making another one before people really lose interest.

  • Grimphantom

Bunch of A-Holes i will see the day when fans don’t give a crap of what they do and start complaining later. Not fan of the remake but does suck when Jane Levy did wanted to continue and it’s a shame too since she’s hot and could have been a deadite ass kicker in the sequel.

Nothing personal but they should just go with a new Ash, as much as i dig the almighty King Bruce Campbell he’s not as young has he used to be, if it was in the time when he did Brisco County Jr. would have been awesome but he’s already in age that he might get tired soon unless he’s Grunkle Stan from Gravity Falls which btw i can pic Campbell taking the role of Grunkle Stan if they make a live action movie of Gravity Falls

  • deathmonger420 .

I really liked the remake and hope to see more Fede evil dead…the only thing i really didnt like about it was the fact that Mia was the first one to be possessed, and yet she still SURVIVES. her brother just gets all macgyver all of the sudden and fashions that stupid needle electric device and somehow brings her back to normal. WHY? is a fucking doctor? NO. oh i think he was a mechanic so that means he can save a persons life with needles and wire!! forget about the horrible 3rd degree burns she gets in the shower…appartently being buried in the dirt for a few minutes heals burns almost instantly!!! and then he dies and now SHE is the hero?!?! THAT is the ONLY thing I HATE about this movie. Once a deadite…FOREVER A DEADITE!!!!

    • Leebo

Just like Ash then, when he gets possessed at the end of The Evil Dead?

      • cetrata

I assume you are referring to evil dead 2 and no he managed to fight it off before becoming fully possessed.

    • cetrata

This was actually one of the worst remakes out there and one of the worst of 2013. That mia revival scene pissed me the f*** off. Not only did mia turn out perfectly ok despite taking abuse, that even goes against the mythology where the only way to cure fully possessed ones all involve death.

  • ThunderDragoon

She’s so right. They’re so focused on the Ash character right now. I loved the remake, and I want a sequel with Jane Levy, but I don’t think it’s going to happen.

  • MikeyRey29

I love The Evil Dead series, I enjoyed the remake and was looking forward to the sequel. But sadly, I’m just losing hope in Raimi and Campbell. I love them…. But these days they are just coming off as giving empty promises and trolling the internet.

  • DrJohnMan

I believe the series is done for the most part. Sure, something may spring up in 10-20 years…but it’s going to be a different world by then.

  • Logan

My thoughts are that they’re talking out of their asses again. Nothing is going to happen. Take that to the bank.

  • Krug09

I know netflix shows are the new thing or AMC whatever but i don’t watch shows tbh. Not anymore anyway. So i personally don’t want to see every FUCKING film made into a damn show. I mean we have Evil Dead the show, Friday The 13th the show, Scream the show, many more in production. I understand its a business they want to jump on the money train before it leaves but fuck this is getting annoying just make a damn movie!

  • zombie84_41

Honestly as much as it pisses me off I would rather see a Army of darkness 2 which I hope is still happening because I’ll fuckin be more angry over that then anything. I could honestly wait for a evil dead 2. As for a TV show if they get it on FX, hbo, starz,or a channel like that I’ll check it out if its prime time on fox or nbc I won’t even waste my time.

  • James

A tv series instead of a sequel? How painfully disappointing.

    • Chuck Finley

Think The Walking Dead but with Bruce.. and chill out these shows can be quite good on tv (cable duh) these days.

  • baronterror

frankly I do not care if they make sequels to either. The time has passed. By today’s standards I feel the original masterpiece of Evil Dead could be broadcast without edit (beyond any perceived nudity or obscene language which I have to admit escapes me if it existed) on prime time television.

Today, the people are jaded (savy?) enough that a tv show could work because they could get away with what they needed to. Even if it were a netflix original series. But the question remains, what could the story be? As Crystal Skull showed, just seeing our beloved character return isnt enough to actually warrant it.

    • ZachAraiza

You didn’t pay very close attention then. The level of gore and blood was quite substantial. Even today there would be a major amount of editing. Also don’t forget the ever famous tree rape scene.

  • Ress EZ

Trying to cool down you people, what if Raimi and Campbell are able to do the projects of what they have announced with phenomenal results? Could take years to produce all three but what the hell, lets just wait and get our anticipation boiling.

I couldn’t care less about a TV series… especially one that likely won’t happen. and sorry to offend you guys but army of darkness is sh!t. the reboot was great and that’s about as good as it will get folks

    • Chuck Finley

You’re wrong – we’re living in a time when The Walking Dead is the most popular show on cable and The Strain has been renewed for a second season already – so I think channels like F/X and AMC and probably some others would LOVE to have a weekly show with a built in audience of Evil Dead/Army of Darkness fans – with zombies (kinda)!

  • Dr. Storm Crow

I just want more Necronomicon in my life.

  • I want a sequel to Fede’s film. I loved the first one, but I’d also love a sequel to Army Of Darkness. Just give me more Evil Dead, I don’t care how. Just do it.

  • Jeremy Wade

i’ll just wait and see as for the remake it was so so to me. sorry i had problems with the dialog and the whole intervention thing i felt was a dumb reason to go to the cabin. the gore and make up effects was good . don’t get me wrong but sorry i wasn’t amazed at the rest of the film. i felt it could have been better and they could have had better set ups and they never acknowledge the events that happen at the beginning of the film. they could have done better and the cameo of bruce was also a waste to me

  • brewers_rule

Funny story regarding the Evil Dead. I was driving through Austin yesterday and passed a billboard announcing “Evil Dead: The Musical.” Can’t decide if that sounded terrible or terribly good. Somehow Ash singing operatically while dispatching demons with a chainsaw sounded peaceful..on a Patrick Bateman kind of level anyway.

  • Good. I am not a fan of the antiseptic remake.

  • Canucklehead

The remake was pointless…if the resources that would have been wasted on this should be used for something original

  • Grizz Bear

The remake was incredible! I’m sad that this is not happening

  • Eric Wicks

Remake was garbage. The first clue was a rewrite of the script. The director was also the writer but for a Spanish national writing in English Diablo Cody would not have been called in. Where the hell was Ash. Movie sucked.

  • Shannon Anderson

    i want another!

  • ola

    ok ri glo
