R.I.P. Robin Williams Has Passed Away At Age 63

Tragic news has hit the web as it’s being reported that Oscar-winning actor/comedian Robin Williams has passed away at the age of 63. There is no cause of death being reported, although a message from his publicist hints that it may have been suicide.

Williams’ publicist has stated:

Robin Williams passed away this morning. He has been battling severe depression of late. This is a tragic and sudden loss. The family respectfully asks for their privacy as they grieve during this very difficult time.

Williams’ career has spanned nearly four decades, with appearances in film and TV as well as live comedy shows. He was known to horror fans for his roles in 2002’s One Hour Photo and Insomnia.

A .PDF posted by the Marin County Sheriff’s Office Coroner Division has been found and corroborates the news. It can be viewed here.

We send our deepest condolences to his family and friends in this terrible time of loss.

    God damn it. Another great talent gone way too early. Fucking sad.

  • Fantasma George

    This has probably been mentioned a thousand times but in this case, I really am wondering: what if it had been Adam Sandler or Rob Schneider instead?

    • Guest

      What a sick thing to say, you should not wish death upon anyone. You are a terrible person.

      • Fantasma George

        Wish you were dead, Guest.

        Wish you were dead.

        • Julie

          I wish you were dead then.. please do us ALLL (and your parents as well because you’re a disgrace to your family) a favor and get killed. Go fuck yourself, do whatever makes it easier for you to die. We then will be happy (o:

  • Khy

    WTF? Omg, damn, R.I.P.

  • Grimphantom

    Just got the news recently and comment how shocking this news came of his death and the cause which you think that he’s living a good life with his family and friends not to mention as a comedian doing stuff to make people laugh you don’t expect he had depression…… does make you wish who have seen him notice the signs. He will be missed.

      I know that it does not make your life perfect i guess but i dont understand how many people that managed to become big, successul, popular and wealthy celebritys can become depressed and want to kill themselves.
      Extremely few peope in the World are able to get that successful so it feels like only that should make you feel happy with your life.
      And i dont think these celebritys that got depressed and killed themselves did not have any friends or family or anything like that.
      I have been depressed a couple times in my life but that was because i felt like a loser that nobody cared about and that i probably would never be successful at anything.
      These celebritys are the opposite of that.

        Depression is an actual illness… like cancer. It’s not just about feeling sad or down for specific reasons – sometimes there are no reasons. Just because a person may or may not be grateful for their talent and the success they have does not mean that depression goes away. The man was a genius actor and likely used that to his best ability to hide the pain of depression and addiction that he struggled with.

        • LoveAnimation

          Ok sorry i did not know it could be an illness.
          Thought it was just a person feeling bad about stuff in his life like when i was depressed.

            The irony of what Rorschach from the Watchmen said:

            I heard a joke once: Man goes to doctor.
            Says he’s depressed.
            Says life is harsh and cruel.
            Says he feels all alone in a threatening world.
            Doctor says, “Treatment is simple.
            The great clown Pagliacci is in town tonight.
            Go see him.
            That should pick you up.”
            Man bursts into tears.
            Says, “But doctor… I am Pagliacci.”

    FUCK!! this is devastating!! i’m in shock. i know how dark depression can get (i think many of us have been there). my condolences to Robin’s family & friends.

    This might be the hardest “celebrity” death for me… R.I.P Robin Williams. Making good memories in my life and childhood. Aladdin, ferngully, hook, mrs doubtfire to name a few. I am mad at him.

    • Weresmurf

      Don’t be mad at him. Feel for his family. If it were just a junkie overdosing like Philip Seymour Hoffman I’d agree, but depression is an amazingly powerful enemy to have. I’ve been diagnosed and treated in the past, but depression untreated plus alcoholism can be a devestating combination as we’ve seen.

      • macguffin54

        So you think it’s okay to be “mad” at someone who dies of an accidental overdose but not for someone who purposefully takes their life? You, sir (or madam), need to be treated for more than depression. You are either crazy or heartless (or twelve). Not trying to start a feud, but depression and addiction are both mental problems and neither is something that is asked for (and let’s not forget that many use an addiction to treat their depression when conventional medicine proves inadequate). Also odd you ignore the alcoholism that you believe contributed to RW’s death but show scorn for PSH’s use of chemicals. Don’t misunderstand me. I liked RW a lot more than PSH, so I am not defending him for that reason. But everybody deserves respect in this world and everybody deserve respect when they leave it, no matter the circumstance.

        • Weresmurf

          Not everyone deserves respect when they leave it, that’s a complete fallacy. Respect is earned, not freely given. Only a fool gives respect unquestionably. I’ll agree to disagree with you on this as I just don’t share your point of view, but I also won’t sink to the level of throwing around insults, I’m better than that.

      • Krug09

        I was only mad for a few minutes because it was fresh in my mind. I struggle with depression, i always have so i understand. I am not one of those dicks who says he is a coward or selfish.. because a person HAS to live in misery so everyone else can have a smile on their faces. Fuck that.

        • J Jett

          THANK YOU!! i agree w/ you 100000%. it pisses me off when people say someone who commits suicide is a coward or whatever. depression is insidious and sometimes the road just has been too long. i’m not saying suicide is good but i just hate when people (many of whom i suspect have never suffered from real long lasting depression) trash the person who has done it/attempted it.

        Robin Williams also had his own history of substance abuse. Early in his career he battled with an addiction with cocaine, which he shook off after hearing of John Belushi’s death and because he was becoming a father. Later in life he had his battles with alcohol. He had a lot of insecurities and a lot of anxiety, which he, according to his own words, treated with alcohol, to be able to hide from them. Only, he admitted, it didn’t really help. Being an entertainer with those kind of problems isn’t a picnic, really. No matter how much money you have.

  • Krug09

    one hour photo what a powerful movie

  • ThunderDragoon

    I haven’t been hit this hard by a celebrity death in years. I’m so saddened by this. He was so funny and amazing. You will be greatly missed, Robin. Rest in peace.

    O Captain! My Captain! our fearful trip is done;
    The ship has weather’d every rack, the prize we sought is won;
    The port is near, the bells I hear, the people all exulting,
    While follow eyes the steady keel, the vessel grim and daring:

    But O heart! heart! heart!O the bleeding drops of red,Where on the deck my Captain lies,Fallen cold and dead.

    O Captain! My Captain! rise up and hear the bells;
    Rise up—for you the flag is flung—for you the bugle trills;
    For you bouquets and ribbon’d wreaths—for you the shores a-crowding;
    For you they call, the swaying mass, their eager faces turning;

    Here captain! dear father!This arm beneath your head;It is some dream that on the deck,You’ve fallen cold and dead.

    My Captain does not answer, his lips are pale and still;
    My father does not feel my arm, he has no pulse nor will;
    The ship is anchor’d safe and sound, its voyage closed and done;
    From fearful trip, the victor ship, comes in with object won;

    Exult, O shores, and ring, O bells!But I, with mournful tread,Walk the deck my captain lies,

    Fallen cold and dead.

  • So sad. Rest in peace.

    Absolutely tragic. A fantastic talent gone. R.I.P Mr Williams, you will be remembered and missed.

  • Bobby Jones

    When depression takes hold it’s so hard to get free. When times get their darkest, I have to find a way to remind myself that it’s just a chemical imbalance in my brain.

    • J Jett

      Bobby Jones, word for word i agree w/ you.

  • crizero

    R.I.P Robin Williams and thank you for everything.

  • I am going to watch Death to Smoochy in his honor since that movie is still considered my favorite Robin Williams

  • Taboo

    I was so sad when I heard about this. He always reminded me of my childhood 🙁

  • Yakushiji Tenzen

    Death To Smoochy and Hook are among my favorites. I grew up on Hook. Really sad news.

  • Melissa Carlill

    He didn’t pass away. He killed himself. I don’t know why people don’t just say it? It sucks. It’s sad. It’s tragic that people get to the point where killing themselves is the only valid option they feel they have in order move forward or problem solve. If we talk about it honestly, maybe the secrecy and shame of how we get to that point will be lessened.
