Update On That ‘Halloween: The Next Chapter’ Story…

halloween

UPDATE: The official Halloween Facebook page writes that the following is completely inaccurate. In fact, our former story regarding Halloween 3D is probably more on the right track….

This story has been edited as of 4:40PM PST.

The Michael Myers legacy will continue on when Dimension Films, along with producer Malek S. Akkad, gear up for the latest entry in the Halloween franchise.

Back in May we exclusively reported that the next film was happening, and it was confirmed by the official Halloween website. Earlier this afternoon Schmoeville has reported that the title was going to be Halloween: The Next Chapter. But alas, it was untrue.

They wrote that the film would be a fresh new take on the Halloween legacy that would be a companion to the Zombie movies, which may or may not confirm Scout Taylor-Compton’s premature casting announcement. New writers were said to be attached and expected to turn in draft this fall.

John Carpenter’s 1978 classic followed a psychotic murderer institutionalized since childhood for the murder of his sister, who escapes and stalks a bookish teenage girl and her friends while his doctor chases him through the streets.

Zombie told a similar tale, while mixing in plenty of Zombie-isms. The sequel went in a more personal and brutal direction. What do you want from the next entry?

    Horrible subtitle

  • Khy

WOOO! Finally! Some damn news! Lmao. I like the title! I’m sure the Weinsteins will stick with this draft, mainly because they don’t have too many projects lined up for 2015 that I know of. I think it’s perfectly logical Scout will be back. At the moment, she’s currently the face of the series(aside from Michael of course) so it would make sense they would call her up early on and ask if she’d be down to return. I hope she does, mainly because I feel like we never really got to know Scout’s Laurie. Laurie was barely given screentime in RZH1 and when we did see her she was running and screaming, in RZH2 her character was going through major mental issues- so It would be nice to see her character possibly at a somewhat stable stage in her life in the next film. I’d rather have this over another reboot. ew

    • wehoaks

Don’t buy this shit. This isn’t news. This is just BD once again feeding off of some dolts rumors to gain hits.

      • Khy

Eeek! Yeah, I’ll wait until we get some legit info.

        • wehoaks

This site should be ashamed of itself anymore. Brad used to be such a good reporter. Now he’s a fucking bought and paid for clown.

  • Jason Smith

    Please ignore zombies halloweens!!

  • Nick Greeley

Calling bullshit. This site has no legitimate source to back themselves up. It’s just some fan spreading more rumors.

    • wehoaks

It’s also BD once again fanning the flames. THis is their fourth straight article that says nothing. This site is a fucking joke anymore.

  • CaptainBlake

Damn. A ‘companion’ to the Zombie films? What the Hell does that even mean? Nothing good. Why can’t they just do what the majority of fans want and go with a real ‘fresh take’ with Myers stalking new characters? Without all the baggage from ‘Resurrection’ or the Zombie films, which few would want to see dredged up anyway? Are the producers that out of touch with the fact that most people, audiences and critics alike, consider the original a classic, and want a return to the serious vibe and atmosphere that started it all? The mind boggles…

    • Khy

. In the interview Malek Akkad did back in June he stated the new film will go back to the feel of the original films. I highly doubt this will be just like the Zombie films because…Rob Zombie is not involved. It’ll probably at best give brief mentions to the zombie films but have an entirely different feel and look and I’m sure there will be lots of new characters.
      But as always, we’ll see.

    • Terry

      Zombie did an awesome job.

    • Krug09

That companion line adds to the confusion but i really hope it has nothing to do with Zombie’s remake. H2 ended the story.

  • greynite1

I’m always for more Michael Myers! But I have to agree that the Zombie files did almost nothing for the Series. Michael was scary and brutal but Zombie just made it too much his own movie for this fans liking.

    • Terry

      I love what Zombie did.

      • wehoaks

        Oh, so you’re the one?

      • greynite1

Terry, Thats cool man, it worked for you, it wasn’t horrible, I just don’t feel it added all that much. Glad you liked it. :)

  • wehoaks

Is BD really feeding off this clown’s “report”? I smell shit from a bull. It’s obvious another film in this series will eventually happen. But the fact that BD keeps reporting this bs nonsense is ridiculous. More non news and more horrible reporting by BD. This site just a massive piece of shit.

Oh and BD/brad: even you know this is shit since you conveniently left out the 2015 when you said the script would be turned in this fall (the link says fall 2015). THis schmoeasshole should do it’s homework before making crap up or before going Into specifics. Over a year to turn in a draft? Bahahahahahahaha. You dolts.

  • wehoaks

Which “reporter” from BD runs that blog you linked, Brad?

  • ThunderDragoon

I’m curious what they mean by “fresh new take” while still going on from Zombie’s movies. I, like most other fans, want a true return to the original feel of the first one.

    • wehoaks

I like most fans want BD to report some actual news and not some shit link to one of their own BS blogs.

      • J Jett

wehoaks for what it’s worth Shocktilyoudrop and Comingsoon are also both reporting this story but (as you mentioned) they also link back to that one souce “schmoesknow”. so who knows if it’s the real deal or not? LOL.

        • wehoaks

It’s bs non news being passed off as news. Again. They probably posted it because bd did. That’s what has happened the last few times BD has posted Halloween “news”.

    • Terry

      I like Zombie’s version better.

  • wehoaks

An “exclusive” that there’d be another Halloween film? What’s next, an exclusive that the sun will set this evening?

  • diapers

Well, as long as mister Zombie is not directing, I’m happy. We all seem to collectively wonder what the hell is meant by sticking with the Zombi-fied theme and material. Wait and see.

    • Terry

      I love Zombie’s versions.

      • J Jett

Terry i also really liked Zombie’s films. i actually loved his H2! :)

        • macguffin54

I really liked H2, compared to the remake, anyway, but it was so dark and weird it was kind of unenjoyable. A good sequel, I believe, would need to be more fun. Scary, but fun. Like the original.

    • Jamie D

I agree, the Zombie movies were okay but i hope they give this one a better feel and take to the series

  • Alan Brave

i say forget a reboot… but if you are going to go the route consider changing the william shatner mask to an obama mask?

  • RidleyScottIsADirector@gmail.c

This site is fucking awful. The news is either about a new Halloween eventually being made(no shit), the VOD release of your buddy’s shit indie flick, or what flavor of gum the guitarist of some shit band likes.

    • Bill Howard

Then why are you on it?

      • wehoaks

Oh eat ass. You don’t have to suck this sites crooked little dick to browse it.

        • Krug09

“You don’t have to suck this sites crooked little dick to browse it.” lmao!

        • http://zacbthompson.tumblr.com Zac Thompson

Are you and RidleyScott the same person. Jesus you two sound like a broken fucking record. Get off the site if you hate it so much, stop ruining it for everyone else. You must be employed to spend this much time farming hatred in the comments section of a website you personally loathe.

          • RidleyScottIsADirector@gmail.c

“Are you and RidleyScott the same person.”

Knew it was only a matter of time! I just need someone to call me a virgin and I’m set with my daily intake of cliche.

          • wehoaks

Ahhh there it is. The infamous same person reply. Dumbass.

      • RidleyScottIsADirector@gmail.c

I wasn’t aware that this was a Bloody Disgusting fan site, Tyler Mane.

    • Michael James

No one anywhere ever could have said this better.

    • Joe DeRosa

Go back upstairs, I think your mom has dinner waiting

      • RidleyScottIsADirector@gmail.c

Anybody who shells out a retort as predictable as that is, forgive me, probably a dopey moron.

        • wehoaks

You should also probably tell it what retort means.

          • William_Spike

are you two quite finished jerking each other off?

          • wehoaks

            Nope. I shoot multiple times.

        • Joe DeRosa

Even a “dopey moron” recognizes a troll when he see one. You’ve been commenting on BD articles for months… if you hate the site so much, stay thafuk off of it.

          • wehoaks

Uch the typical troll label because someone has a different opinion. If you don’t like his replies so much why don’t you stay off his comments? See goes both ways you fuckin idiot. Okay, so now say Ridley and I are the same person. Dare you.

          • Joe DeRosa

It has nothing to do with a difference of opinion. I’m completely open to a difference of opinion… I’m just tired of people bashin the site and then coming back over and over. But thanks for joining the conversation, how’d you put that… oh yes, you fuckin idiot.

          • RidleyScottIsADirector@gmail.c

Translation: “I’m completely open to a difference of opinion. I’m just tired of different opinions.”

          • wehoaks

            Ding ding!

          • wehoaks

          • J Jett

Joe DeRosa, i agree w/ you that RidleyScottIsADirector is a bit of a tool. he’s been very nasty with people (not just directed at this site but also those who visit it) for a while now.

          • Joe DeRosa

Yeah, him and his buddy wehoaks. I’m done with this thread.

          • wehoaks

No you’re not. You’ll reply again you lying tool.

          • RidleyScottIsADirector@gmail.c

I’m so honored you keep track of my comments, Joey. And I’m proud of you for realizing you are a dopey moron. Now stay thafuk off the internet, moronic dope.

      • macguffin54

Ooo, I hope it’s fried chicken!

    • Jonny

dont forget the articles and ads for GREEN INFERNO…..
I dont know how much they are paying BD for those ads and articles but it is fucking annoying

  • jHbar

This news excites me, but I have 100% faith that “the Weinstein Company will once again change their mind and go in yet another direction.” You know, because they seem to mis-handle any movie that is not Oscar bait.

  • Jonny

yet one more movie that Scout Taylor-Compton will Ruin.
Wasn’t two awful movies with her ENOUGH? Must they bring her back to ruin one more?

    • http://Voorhees83 Voorhees83

Instead, it was Rob Zombie that ruined Scout Taylor-Compton by making her all crazy…and that Charles Manson poster above her bed. Common. I’d rather not have her in another though, not that I disliked her. I just don’t want another Zombie related film.

  • J Jett

i’m up for a new H film as long as it’s not anywhere near as abysmal as
RESURRECTION. lol. and i’m all for Scout to return as Laurie but NOT AS
THE KILLER (like was suggested at the end of H2)!! lol. she’s like 5 foot 2 and 100 pounds! maybe Michael can
go by the way of Jason in the F13 movies (after part 5) when he became
“zombie” Jason. i just am not sure it will feel like a H film without
Michael Myers. and for the love of all that is good in the world do not
do another cult storyline!! that was embarrassingly cringe-inducing.

    • wehoaks

Oh then save your time. Malek told me they are planning to make it as bad as resurrection. Said his finger are crossed that it’s worse.

      • J Jett

        wehoaks, LOL! :)

  • Christensen

    Yikes.

  • WWE Sucks TNA Is Dying

this is bs. where is this news on http://halloweenmovies.com then? its not official if its not on the official site BD lol

  • ljrich

I’ll skip it. I think it’s about time to move on.

  • Khy

    Official Halloween site has spoken-

    http://halloweenmovies.com/2014/08/19/halloween-the-next-chapter/

This news is 100% false as others have stated.

    • wehoaks

Ahhhh this site. Just beyond awful. Maybe if they spent 2 minutes being actual journalists of the 4959403@39485 minutes they spend talking to shit bands they’d not have to resort to posting rumors. What a pathetic laughingstock.

      • Khy

Lol I can’t believe they didn’t check this out before they just ran and posted it. I’m definitely going to be more careful when it comes to BD. Which sucks because this was the site I thought I could always depend on for actual facts.

        • wehoaks

It used to be. Stopped about 2 years ago when they started posting all this comic book and band nonsense. It’s basically a blog anymore. It took me all of two minutes reading that link to know it was bs. I bet it’s a bd reporters site. Brad is a clown now. He used to be the premier horror reporter.

          • J Jett

wehoaks, i agree that Deadline is a very good site. in fact it’s one of the most reliable sites around.

      • Krug09

I have seen BD be wrong a few times… This is just confusing the fuck out of me. So the only rumor was the title… and the rumor was wrong so this article should be removed lol.

        • wehoaks

Bd once again tried to pass off made up bullshit as news. That’s what happened. They should remove this article and retract. But in typicaL bd fashion they managed to suck their own dicks by plugging another bs article they wrote about the inevitable Halloween movie.

  • wehoaks

Hahahahahahahaha this site is beyond awful. They don’t even vet anymore. Get fucked BD.

  • wehoaks

$20 they leave this up with an update and an excuse like “our source is normally one we trust” etc etc. Or maybe they will do what they did last time and post another article, with a misleading headline, defending their lies whole brad has a fucking pussy fit.

  • wehoaks

“Zero Integrity. Zero Credibility.” That should be BDs new motto/tagline.

  • RidleyScottIsADirector@gmail.c
  • Logan

I went to their website and read the whole “article”. What a load of shit. There are so many conflicting reports and opinions that it’s hilarious. I didn’t see any actual news though.

    • Krug09

You mean Halloween’s official site? If so i agree. I am so damn confused man. This article doesn’t help. So whats the update, make it short and sweet. They are making another Halloween movie but its not called the next chapter? So why is all this shit written? I took care of it in one sentence… Fuck!

      • wehoaks

Nothing ever should have been reported. Brad was needing attention so he made shit up. Again.

  • wehoaks

Wow you guys have outdone yourself. Not only did you report a bs story, you don’t retract or apologize for your methods, THEN you manage to blow yourselves with a link to your H3D non news article. Slow clap. Just slow clap.

    • J Jett

wehoaks the clowns over at the source of this fake news (“schmoesknow”) haven’t even bothered to update their site/article. what tools. LOL.

  • redlefthand

Start fresh. Scout Taylor-Compton has about as much screen presence as a paper bag.

    • Terry

Scout is an awesome actress and beats the hell out of Jamie Lee Curtis in this series by a long shot.

  • http://Voorhees83 Voorhees83

“UPDATE: The official Halloween Facebook page writes that the following is completely inaccurate. In fact, our former story regarding Halloween 3D is probably more on the right track….”

So all this news was pulled out of someone’s ass? I was gonna comment on the movie idea, but just seems like a waste of time now.

    • RidleyScottIsADirector@gmail.c

And the other news. And the otherer news.

      • http://Voorhees83 Voorhees83

and for the record, the original “Halloween 3d” idea sounded a lot more ridiculous then this new idea. Maybe someone is starting a rumor to try and change things up.

Ultimately, I want a “Next Chapter” that has nothing to do with Zombie’s movies, just like 90% of the fans. Maybe a return to the original series, but a fresh start at the same time.

        • RidleyScottIsADirector@gmail.c

The next movie should be in the original canon, Post-Resurrection. Yet it should act as a standalone movie. It shouldn’t necessarily acknowledge any specific events from 1-8, but it should feel like it belongs in that world. A Halloween 9 without calling it such. White mask, blue jumpsuit, normal height. There’s nothing wrong with keeping up a tradition as long as it works.

          • http://Voorhees83 Voorhees83

Exactly. I don’t think they should ignore any previous family members who got killed though in 1-8. A brand new idea perhaps. Maybe Michael is done killing his family and wants to kill others now. Also, it should leave room for many more sequels to come instead of wrapping something up.

          • RidleyScottIsADirector@gmail.c

Yeah, although family is a reoccurring thread in these movies, it needs to be done differently, or dropped altogether. Sister, fine. Niece, ok. Anyone more is pushing it. A new Halloween entry is delicate, a difficult nut to crack. I think the main thing an eleventh Halloween movie should strive for is really giving us characters we care about. Set up these great dominoes, then knock ‘em down hard. Imagine a bunch of college film students discussing the Haddonfield murders? Something akin to the sequel discussion in Scream 2.

          • http://Voorhees83 Voorhees83

I just don’t want it to turn into a Scream-like series where all of a sudden cousins, aunts, uncles, etc are being killed. How many family members does Michael need to kill anyways? How many family members does Michael even have?

As far as a bunch of college students discussing the Haddonfield murders, there would have to be a good reason for Michael to want to kill them. Maybe a little generic, but certainly would be better then RZ Halloween 3.

          • RidleyScottIsADirector@gmail.c

No, no, no. You’re still thinking inside the box. The movie shouldn’t be about “Michael has to kill X”. Michael should kill because that’s what he, as a manifestation of pure evil, wants to do. He wants to stick a knife in you whether you’re family or not.

No killing people because they’re discussing him. No breaking into a jail; no offense but that one is particularly awful. Yes, he’ll just sneak past the guards and slice away at the cell bars with his kitchen knife.

I’ve been trying to rack my brain for a good idea, and so far I just have a broad, broad kernel of an idea: the main character’s quest and arc has to be about solving a mystery.

There’s just something about that particular setup that feels right to me.

I’m not interested in, “This time, Michael’s in an asylum!”, “There’s time, Michael’s going after his brother!”, “And next time, instead of X, it’ll be Y!” etc.

          • http://Voorhees83 Voorhees83

Yeah, I admit. That jail idea I thought of in about 5 seconds and was pretty bad. I was just thinking of Halloween 5 (ending) meets Halloween 2 in the hospital. After all, he got past the guards before.

The mystery sounds like it would be a good idea. You mean solve a certain mystery of Michael Myers? I could see that working although that was kind of Dr Loomis’s job. Maybe I was thinking a little inside the box, but I think most want a traditional comeback to the John Carpenter roots including myself. Either way, it’s not up to you or I. They’ll end up making some crapfest instead that nobody wants.

          • RidleyScottIsADirector@gmail.c

No. Basically I want a character-based movie that is not beholden to the dude in the mask who is supposed to be the tool you use to scare the audience.

What if this movie really was ABOUT someone? I’ve always felt the Michael character should be converted back to window dressing e.g. the ’78 movie. Only popping up to stalk, startle and kill. When the third act rolls around, sure. Bring him out more.

But I still think the lead character solving a mystery of some sort is a good idea. Of course it’d be related to Myers, or an (past) action of Myers. Something about “lead girl” and “mystery” just gels right to me. I’m just gravitating toward it.

          • http://Voorhees83 Voorhees83

I see what your saying, but not sure I’m totally connecting. I feel like they’ve done plenty of character development as well as centering some of the movies around certain characters a good amount. Laurie Strode, Laurie Strode’s daughter and Dr. Loomis for example. Yes, they were all connected to Myers. How can you have a Halloween movie without someone drawing attention to the dude in the mask? It’s a movie, not a tv series. We have to quickly get to the point of the whole “Halloween series” feel.

It sounds to me like your describing the first Halloween movie in what you want. The original Halloween focused on the main girl Laurie Strode. She was trying to solve a mystery of Myers, but she didn’t know who the creeper was until later in the movie. She was the lead girl. Just seems like it’s been done before.

          • http://moviepilot.com/desolateearth K. Lee Adams

I think I get where you’re coming from. It sounds similar to my feelings. I want Michael from the original film back, before things got messy with the sibling storyline and the idea of Michael specifically hunting his own family and crazy shit with druid cults and constellations. I want Michael to be the Boogeyman again, the guy in the white mask who picks a target and stalks, terrorizes and kills anyone in his way simply because he’s the embodiment of evil, the personification of death itself. What you said, window dressing. If the characters in the movie are interesting and relatable you can play Michael the way he originally was. If you’re characters have personality then it’s perfectly okay (and cooler) for Michael to be a complete blank who hits Haddonfield like an unexpected storm, there for no reason other than to slaughter the innocent. Forget family connections, forget weird subplots attempting to explain Michael (and for the love of God forget anything Zombie did, no offense to zombie fans) and go back to the simple classic story of the Boogeyman coming out to play on Halloween night. An idea I had was that we would follow a new character, a teenage boy living in Haddonfield who’s mercilessly bullied by his classmates. As a result he’s become a withdrawn, hateful individual who’s obsessed with the bloody history of the town. The kind of kid who’s bedroom walls are covered with disturbing drawings and old newspaper clippings about Myers. After reaching his breaking point he decides to get revenge and plans to dress up as Michael Myers on Halloween night, take out his bullies and get away with it by making it appear as though Myers has returned and resumed killing in Haddonfield. But naturally, this Halloween, the real Michael actually does return for another night of mayhem. Then our lead would have a major conflict: does he carry out his own plan anyway? Does he sit back and hope that Michael will take care of his tormentors for him? Or can he let go of his hatred for this particular group of kids in order to stop Michael from slaughtering the good, innocent citizens of Haddonfield? That’s my idea. A little goofy, maybe, but I think it would definitely be interesting. That to me is the key. Have your well written lead and supporting characters at interesting or dark and dramatic points in their lives where you could remove the horror element and still have a compelling story about human beings and their personal struggles. Then add Michael to the mix and watch the chaos unfold in an intense, scary and entertaining way. So yeah, that’s my personal pitch. Based on your comments it seemed like something similar to what you’re talking about, as far as a new chapter. And sorry this is super long! Everyone, please forgive me. :)

        • Terry

I know a lot of fans that want it to follow Zombie’s versions. Myself included.

          • http://Voorhees83 Voorhees83

            nah

    • http://Voorhees83 Voorhees83

Also, replying to my own comment. The official Halloween Facebook page says nothing along that lines that “Halloween 3d is probably more on the right track”.

      Did I miss something?

  • Joey_Redballs

As I have written before: Halloween 3D should be a re-imagining of Silver Shamrock, with the witches resurrecting Zombie’s Micheal Meyers (get it? Zombie?) with the power of “thorn”, to execute their necessary sacrifices. Of course, Mikey doesn’t like being their puppet, and the protagonist finds a way to release Mr. Meyers from their control. The movie ends with a battle of slasher Might vs 3D Magic.

    • RidleyScottIsADirector@gmail.c

This is a KFC Double Down in comment form.

    • http://Voorhees83 Voorhees83

      Good idea for a comedy

    • Rickem

I would watch that on opening night at the midnight showing with a large popcorn, a hot dog, some sour patch kids and a white cherry icee. And I never buy food at the movies. This is such a trash idea I’d love to see it unfold.

  • REC03

is there any sites like this one that we can all bounce to? i like all the commentators here but the site has become awful. they clearly only care about traffic and they know anything about a new Halloween film will bring it whether its a real story or not. very sad.

    • http://Voorhees83 Voorhees83

I’ve always liked Dread Central, but sometimes like many others, they’ll report news they read from here.

      • REC03

yeah not many people seem to go to DC but i do like them. i’ve always like Arrowinthehead but nobody comments there. i can’t believe there aren’t more good horror sites.

        • diapers

I still like BD, even if they have become fat and lazy. Still seem to find out about random under the radar horror flicks from BD more than the others, at least at this point.

          • Anthony Gulino

thats exactly what this site has become, fat & lazy.. it seems they have completely sold out to “traffic” or pimping for the VHS or BD Selects films..Although I still use this site, its more or less for the commentators, BD has really lost a step or two…

          • wehoaks

They bought into the modern speed over facts and misleading headlines to gain eyeballs type of “reporting”. Not to mention everything is peppered with biased opinions. They’re no longer journalists. They’re bloggers.

          • J Jett

            diapers, Shocktilyoudrop is pretty decent.

THIS JUST IN! AN EXCLUSIVE!!! Bullshit Article 5: The Next Bullshit to be released sometime in the next few weeks!

  • Christensen

Oh and this was “accidental” on your part im assuming. How many hits did that article get? can this site get a new staff?

  • Sean Alexander Watson

I just think this film better not be in 3D, remember Friday 13th 3D and Freddy’s Dead: The Final nightmare.

    • http://Voorhees83 Voorhees83

I liked both of those movies. 3d had nothing to do with the movie itself other then the fact that it was 3d.

Halloween:The Next Chapter, sounds awesome better than the gay H3, or Halloween 3D…Zombies take on Michael Myers was great, H1 was a classic reborn…and perhaps the best movie in the franchise, with H20 being up there as another good Halloween movie..H2 wasn’t that bad either…I wish there was a Lil bit of Zombie involvement in the next one. They should make a fresh new twist on the next film, maybe where Laurie becomes like Michael and escapes the half way house yet gets killed, therefore causing Michael to resurrect and just wipe out Haddonfield..where we learn about his curse, and his true diabolic intentions…and Loomis returns to his roots, and maybe dies at the hands of Laurie? And Like before when he mentored Michael Myers, he mentors laurie out of guilt, and to restore his reputation…”hint,” hint”?

So you’re one of those people who “perhaps” likes a remake more then a classic? No mention of the original Halloween 2? Just Rob Zombie’s versions and H20?…the worst in the series next to Resurrection.

Not to be an ass, but please don’t support those movies. Ok, I was an ass.

      • Terry

So because his opinion doesn’t match yours than he isn’t a fan. I myself love the original series but Rob Zombie brought something better with his remakes.

        • http://Voorhees83 Voorhees83

          Better? lol.

    • Saleem E. Frazer

I for one highly disliked Rob Zombie’s Halloween films. The 1st one had some promising aspects, but completely failed on the protagonist. The characters were just awful, so anyone could’ve gotten butchered without care from me. Even Laurie herself to some degree. The sequel was completely unwatchable at times. I gives it a well deserved 2/10 for it’s visual stylized dream sequences being the only thing worth mentioning.

    • Terry

I agree with you. I absolutely love Rob Zombie’s remakes.

    Saleem Frazer’s Halloween Concept
Halloween: Genocide (John Carpenter’s Series Conclusion)
Concept: John Carpenter’s Halloween is my all time favorite slasher film as well as in my top 10 favorite movies of all time. I will always praise the movie till the end, but will equally show hate to it’s last installment, “Halloween Resurrection”. That movie left a horrible taste in my mouth and I felt the series overall deserves something better to conclude with. Throughout the series, there has been different directions being taken such as the Halloween 4-6 story and the 1,2, & 8 story. Not every sequel is accepted as canon to the fan base as some people feel that the Thorn story line is ridiculous. I feel the canon story lies within the first obviously and should stay as Halloween 1,2,7, & the beginning of 8 (“Resurrection”) as Laurie, Michael, and Dr. Loomis are the key figures of the story. I feel the final conclusion should revolve around Michael Myers escaping the hospital in the intro and hiding out somewhere. There should be a focus on one of his surviving relatives as he (or she) learns about his escape and decides to end his reign of murders for good. I want their to be a heavy focus on Michael’s abilities and what makes him the unstoppable force that he is. The Thorn story line in 5 & 6 was never mentioned or even hinted at after those movies so I don’t think it’s canon to the main story line of the series. There is however the overall idea explored in the films as Michael Myers being an almost supernatural force which I feel the finale should explore heavily on. There is a moment in Halloween 2 where Dr. Loomis sees the words “Samhain” written on a chalkboard in a school where Michael was recently located. I think the fact that he took the time to write it in blood on the board should be looked into as it is never really explained. There should be a Loomis-like character (maybe an admirer or descendent of Dr. Loomis) searching for the answers of Michael’s evil force throughout the film (let’s just call him Steven just for name sake). As for Michael dying or not in the end, I think there should be a moment where he actually shows fear towards a certain object or something to that effect. Perhaps “Steven” finds something within the lore of the Samhain halloween curse spoken about by Loomis in the past that somewhat weakens Michael causing him to feel physical pain (humanizing him temporarily). It’s within these moments, that we se Michael show restraint or fear. Last but not least, there should be flashbacks to Michael’s years in the psychiatric hospital before he escaped through Loomis’s notes being narrated or something to that effect. Anything to truly tie in the original would be great. An idea I had in mind for a while was to have him sort of snap out of whatever trance-like state that has been powering him for a short moment. This is where we can get something amazing an intense as we see him confused towards the blood or knife on his hands. This is a very powerful idea and I think fans deep down would love to see this happen. EIther way, I think the final conclusion to the series should end with a solid horror and suspenseful film just as the series started with that hopefully people will say great things about years after. I would love someone with a solid suspenseful horror background to direct. And the mask should be just as positively iconic as the original was. Perhaps get as close to the original as possible with a symbol or two in blood on the side or something (maybe not that crazy). Either way this is my idea for how a new Halloween movie should go at this point.

I love the first 2 Halloweens but after the second film I lost interest. I watched H20 and Resurrection however and both were fairly enjoyable. In my opinion the first Halloween is the consummate slasher film. It was so good, none of its sequels could top it as Carpenter set the bar so high.

I’ll watch the new Halloween as a fan but not a die hard. I don’t mind it being in 3D as I think it would make the film scarier. What made Halloween I so frightening was the mood and uncertainty of the plot. Now imagine that coming out in 3D. The series was never built around gore, unlike Friday the 13th, so while I expect a decent bodycount, I won’t be disappointed if the gore is minimal.

All I have to say is that it better have the masks back again. All this Michael Myers stuff is interesting but the real horror of Halloween is the pumpkin, skeleton, and witch masks. “Season of the Witch” is the best Halloween (I actually watch it every Halloween too as an admittedly guilty pleasure). I’d love to see a contemporary re-telling (it’s one of the few films out there I’d love to see actually remade in current internet times for a different spin on the story). We definitely need more “Season of the Witch”!
