Warner Bros is Making a ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s Movie

FNaF3_5-620x400

In the latest edition of Hollywood Headlines That Should Surprise No One, we finally have news of a Five Nights at Freddy’s movie adaptation that Warner Bros. allegedly has in production.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, a film adaptation of developer Scott Cawthon’s insanely popular trilogy of horror games that mostly consist of jump scares is being produced by the same trio that’s handling the latest adaptation of Stephen King’s novel It — Roy Lee of Vertigo Entertainment as well as Seth Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg of KatzSmith Productions.

Judging by the comments on many of my Five Nights stories, Freddy Fazbear doesn’t seem to have many friends among Bloody Disgusting’s general audience. So, is this something you might be interested in seeing, or not so much?

I can honestly see this working better as a movie than it is a video game. I got respect for the games dev, sounds like a stand up guy, but the game isn’t for me. Kudos to the dev on his success.

  • Cheshire TrollCat

    APRIL FOO.. Oh, wait…

  • Khy

As long as we get someone who can create atmosphere. Atmosphere imo is what makes the games so enjoyable, at least the first.

  • LoveAnimation

Cool i never expected that this would happen.
I dont think i have ever seen a horror movie with animatronics before so it will be interesting and something new and different just like with the FNAF games.
Slenderman used to be just as popular as Five Nights At Freddys is right now so why did they never make a Slenderman movie?
Slenderman is a really great, interesting and scary character to me so i really wish he could get a movie too.
There are many other awesome and really scary horror games that i think deserves movies based on them more than Five Nights at Freddys.
But FNAF getting a movie is still great of course and im looking forward to see it.

    • LinkThe Awesomeness

I think Wikipedia teased it during the beginning of this year…

    In before found-footage announcement.

  • ChasingTheGhost

I knew this would happen! I’m honestly excited for this.

  • Grimphantom

Hey April Fools was last week!

Anyway this will probably bomb hard when it’s released or it won’t happen. If it does happen i hope that at least be scary……those watching those crappy games on youtube where pure boredom….

    • Hinasan

Wow fuck you. Why not bring something constructive to the conversation instead of negativity. Also most of the people that go to youtube to watch the game be played is because people want to play it but are too scared or lazy to play it. That doesn’t mean that it’s a crappy game or that the people are bored. It’s an interesting game but a pretty hard one. And if sharknado didn’t bomb hard then this surely won’t either.

      • Harley Mitchel Dirk

The fact that you compared it to Sharknado is pretty telling.

      • Banana

        Opinions, bruh.

      • Grimphantom

Oh sorry, FNAF fanboy alert! The game is crap, Oh how hard it is to flip on a monitor to check they don’t move or else they are gonna get ya……..yeah that’s really HARD. I seen old people playing this garbage and unfortunately their life span has decrease by playing who like others who does have common sense thought the games where boring and didn’t scared shit.

LOL you’re comparing Sharknado with this? Just to show how much faith you have on this movie…..

  • ThunderDragoon

I always thought the idea worked better as a movie than a game. I’m definitely excited about this.

  • Sarah A

I kinda think Scott was vague about the story and let theorists flesh it out for him between game releases but at least that means there’s something for the writers to work with.

Too bad it probably won’t be animated, that would be neat.

  • Raven Giusti

  • Mr. Dry

Fan theories are more interesting than the actual story told in the game, but maybe with a good director and those animatronics brought to life correctly (because those things are genuinely scary, or at least they were before the sequels) it could work, don’t panic.

  • Mr. Mose

80 minutes of security guard so and so working a minimum wage job. Turning lights on and off. Checking cameras. Closing doors. Opening doors. Evenually meeting disgruntled animatronics.

    Are we not entertained….

    • thatguyjake42

They could make it so the guard has to move around the pizza place to fix the cameras that the animatronics mess with but they are still going around and if they see him he tries to run away but foxy comes out of nowhere and fuckin claws his eyes out with his hook

  • A2VL

I think this could be a good horror film. I could see it being amped up to a whole new level as the nights continue and being half found footage.

  • Jade Panda Alexandra

The story line, or what was hinted with it as well as some fan theories could really make this a good movie adaption.

    • http://ladymulti.livejournal.com/ LadyMulti

The back-story would make a brilliant movie, to be fair. Murdered children, haunted animatronics, and from the ending of the 3rd game we know what happens to the murderer. Yeah, I’d pay to see that.

      • Jade Panda Alexandra

        Exactly!

    • LinkThe Awesomeness

I have a feeling that this will be finally reveal the Purple Guy’s identity. In the games, Purple Guy is just PG. Even if he handed you the answer, it would still be hard to figure it out.

      • Jade Panda Alexandra

I sure as heck hope so!

  • BossWalrus

I am so excited! Especially if its anything like the game theory episode about FN2 i think it could have a ton of promise!

  • EvilHead1981

As long as Warner doesn’t let Platinum Dunes near it, I think it could turn out pretty decent.

  • Lord Elric

With Seth Grahame-Smith, the man who helped bring comedy to DARK SHADOWS, and helped ruin it? And who did a terrible screenplay of one of his own books?

No thanks. He’ll have to prove himself, as he’s basically at square one again. Imho.

COULD make a decent movie, though. With the right crew.

  • Harley Mitchel Dirk

This is… Surprising. I wonder who will direct, Uwe Boll?

    • LinkThe Awesomeness

I’m going to sh*t my pants if Scott Cawthon is directing.

  • jacob

omggggg fnaf film fnaf 4 is the film

  • jacob

I wonder if Scott is going to play as phone guy in film

  • Kåre Kristensson

My internal reaction to this whole thing:

Seriously, enough with FNAF already damn it!
That franchise got damn old very quickly and the supposed backstory is just pretty generic creepypasta stuff, vengeful kid spirits that possess animatronics and whatnot..

  • Guest

    ;

  • Conan

Not sure. FNAF was a boring set of games. But as a movie it could be really good.

  • Krueg518

I remember someone mentioning this on youtube yesterday and having zero idea of what the hell this thing even was. Time to google this…

  • Stephen Miller

I am going to take this news with a grain of salt and doubt that a Hollywood movie adaptation are nothing more than rumors. If this was announced as a fan-film then that is understandable, but I cannot see Hollywood making a FNAF movie.

    • Sirengx

Warner Brothers bought the rights to make a movie, so..

  • huntermc

My eight year old daughter and all of her friends love these games. She’s going to be thrilled when I tell her the news.

  • Adam Palkovits

I always thought it would be a better movie than a game.

  • Linda Bishop

Hellllllll yes yes yes fuckin yes

  • D2Kvirus

I just can’t see how this would work: either we get a tepid slasher movie with no connection to the game’s plot – or we get another found footage movie with jump scares cheaper than those in the games.

  • JURGMANDR

The game is shit and I fully expect the movie to be shit. Unless it’s actually animatronic animals stuffing people into suits and killing them in the process, that might be entertaining.

    • LinkThe Awesomeness

If it takes place in the first game, you might see phone guy get stuffed. 😀

  • Adam Nixon

While the game on a surface level is quite shallow (over-reliance on jump scares, etc.), after seeing the Game Theory episodes dealing with them, I do think there is some interesting subtexts and themes going on in the game, and there is a slight potential the movie could be interesting and work to an extent.

  • Lyra The Arctic Fox

Yes!!!! Its perfect for those who cant solve the theories thank you Scott and Warner Bros your the best. :-)

  • Milk

    Is this actually a thing?

    • KittyLynxiePie

      Yes ;3

  • striker300

I want to see this so bad

  • Aidan Cosky

Oh, no. They’re gonna fuck it up. I know it, they’re gonna fuck up!

    • LinkThe Awesomeness

Chill out, Scott Cawthon said that he will be behind the entire project. Not Hollywood.

      • Aidan Cosky

Oh, thank GOD! Yes! Then I will have to see it.

  • Carl Ängehagen

I can’t wait to see what the movie is going to be like!!!! do somebody have a clue?

    • LinkThe Awesomeness

Chills will go down my spine if they change the WB theme to a music box variation.

  • Ivona Uzunova

why is nobody pissed about this yet

  • LinkThe Awesomeness

This will be good… It’s probably the most interesting move a game developer could ever take. After all of the hate towards a 4th game. The movie will replace the game, to continue the story. After all, the number “4” doesn’t exactly look good next to game title.

  • EarlessLeader

[cynical sarcasm]What? Something popular is being branched out into other mediums of entertainment and is being milked for everything it has to offer? This has never happened before! [/cynical sarcasm]

Bring it on because I’m a gullible horror fan!

Yeah, that’s right! I watch everything and enjoy everything! So sue me!

I always thought FNAF would do better as a movie more so than a game. The games are more story exposition than anything else, so it makes since it would work as a movie I suppose. Not to mention the sheer uproar and cult following this game has achieved.

  • Chance LeBoeuf

Ugh. I imagine the movie will be just what the game is, ineffective jump scares. I think FNAF can represent what’s wrong with mainstream horror movies.

  • The Jon

These people never make the movies they promise. I’ve been waiting for that IT remake for four years after they announced they had the script. “We’ll start shooting this year, we’ll start shooting this year…oops, early summer 2015!”
    Yeah right.
Didn’t they also try to get a Beetlejuice sequel going, or was that someone else?

The movie can be done well, it CAN be in the right hands, but these people don’t seem to actually keep up on the movies they claim they want to make.

  • allure britney searl

I hope it is a good movie it better be scary I love fnaf

  • That0nepasta

I hope they do it justice, and don’t screw it up. I don’t trust movie companies making movies based off popular fandoms, like the DragonBall movie, Avatar the Last Airbender, and that nightmare of Super Mario Brothers.

I hope since our technology is better with making movies they can pull off a great movie.

  • Gannon Kendrick

I’m just going to say it.
No, they’re not making that Austin Powers sequel, or the Minecraft movie, or this, or really anything they claim to be making way too far in advance. These things basically never happen. So maybe we should stop rewarding people for claiming to be working on things that they don’t actually have solid, physical evidence of? Maybe we should stop reporting these things as news until they’re actually underway?
