Texas Chainsaw 3D: Leathface-in-closet

Just the other day we brought you an exclusive interview with Christa Campbell and Lati Grobman, the duo behind Campbell Grobman Films and both Texas Chainsaw 3D and the forthcoming Leatherface.

There was a huge piece of news hiding within the interview, something we thought should be reiterated.

Campbell revealed exclusively to Bloody Disgusting that they (with Millennium) hold the rights to five films based on Tobe Hooper’s 1974 The Texas Chain Saw Massacre! With Texas Chainsaw 3D in the books, and the prequel, Leatherface, about to go behind cameras, that leaves three more potential films. As always, it’s up to you guys to make them a reality.

“We have the rights for 5 films,” Campbell told us, “but it always depends on the success of the last one whether or not you move forward.”

In other news, the duo confirm that, as of this writing, the Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo-directed preqiel will not be in 3-D.

The film centers around a violent teen who one day will become Leatherface. He escapes from a mental hospital with three other inmates, kidnaps a young nurse and takes her on a road trip from hell. Along the way, they are pursued by an equally deranged lawman out for revenge.

Stephen Dorff plays said lawman, who was described to us as a lean, mean Texas Ranger who has a vendetta against the teen boy who grows up to become Leatherface.

We had also previously reported that the TCM prequel is presented as a mystery of sorts about three teenage psychopaths, one of whom grows up to be Leatherface. Sam Strike was cast as ‘Jackson’, with James Bloor starring as ‘Ike’, a budding young maniac of his. There’s still a third to be cast, and only one will eventually become Leatherface.

Also, we at Bloody Disgusting exclusively reported that Angela Bettis was cast as Mother Sawyer in the film that begins shooting on May 18th.

Austrian filmmakers Veronika Franz and Severin Fiala (The Lodge, Goodnight Mommy) are back with new horror movie The Devil’s Bath, and it’s coming to Shudder this summer.

The Devil’s Bath debuts on Shudder June 28, Variety reports today.

The film makes its North American premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival in June.

Here’s the official plot synopsis for the German-language horror movie: “In 1750 Austria, a deeply religious woman named Agnes has just married her beloved, but her mind and heart soon grow heavy as her life becomes a long list of chores and expectations. Day after day, she is increasingly trapped in a murky and lonely path leading to evil thoughts, until the possibility of committing a shocking act of violence seems like the only way out of her inner prison.”

Anja PlaschgDavid ScheidMaria HofstätterCamilla Schielin, and Lorenz Tröbinger star. You can check out a first look image above. Expect the trailer in the coming weeks.

The filmmakers tell Variety, “We want to see the world how it is, and that’s of course sometimes very difficult and painful, but I think we owe it to ourselves and other human beings to be honest about everything that’s not great in the world. Many movies just depict the world as a humongous place that’s amazing to live in. We think sometimes that’s not true and feel the responsibility to look into those pieces.”

The Devil’s Bath is produced by Heimatfilm Productions and Ulrich Seidl Productions as a co-production with Heimatfilm and Coop99 Filmproduktion.
