Jim Carrey Investigates ‘True Crimes’

Jim Carrey Number 23

According to this tracking board, Jim Carrey is in talks to join the indie thriller True Crimes.

Inspired by the 2008 New Yorker article “True Crimes – A Post-Modern Murder Mystery” penned by David Grann, the thriller centers on a murder investigation that takes clues found in a crime novelist’s book, which strikes a bizarre resemblance to the case. The site adds that The Last King Of Scotland scribe Jeremy Brock scripted the adaptation, which sees Brett Ratner and John Cheng producing through their RatPac Entertainment, while David Gerson produces under his shingle InterTitle Films. Ida producer Ewa Puszczynska will serve in a co-producing capacity.

The project has had a long history dating back to 2009, with different talent on board and even a different home. True Crimes initially began at Focus Features, with Roman Polanski in line to direct and Christoph Waltz attached to star. “Babylon A.D.” and Gothika director Mathieu Kassovitz was also at one point slated to direct the thriller.

Carrey previously tried his hand at the thriller genre with Joel Schumacher’s 2007 misfire The Number 23.
