Troy Duffy Returns With Plans For “The Boondock Saints” Series!

IM Global Television has acquired the rights to cult 1999 movie The Boondock Saints for a TV series adaptation, reports Deadline.

Troy Duffy, writer-director of the original film and its sequel, 2009’s The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day, will write the potential series — envisioned as a prequel to the movies — and will direct the first episode! He also will executive produce along with three of the films’ producers: Don Carmody of Don Carmody Television, Lloyd Segan of Piller-Segan and D. Matt Geller, who brought the project to IM Global. Reedus and Flannery are in early talks to come on board as co-executive producers.

Duffy has written a first episode and a bible for the project, which traces the origins of the vigilante brothers Connor and Murphy MacManus — played in the movies by Sean Patrick Flanery and Norman Reedus — as Irish immigrants in South Boston.

A search is underway for a showrunner to join the drama, which will be taken out, eyeing a straight-to-series order.

“For years I’ve been obsessed with telling a real origin story with ‘Boondock,’ and IM Global TV has stepped up,” Duffy said in a press release to Deadline. “Television is the perfect medium to explore these controversial characters on a much deeper level and to bring Boondock Saints to a whole new audience.”

“Since its initial release more than 15 years ago, The Boondock Saints has become a true cultural phenomenon,” said IM Global TV president Stern. “Troy is a consummate storyteller with a compelling vision for a series; the minute we heard it, we were hooked.”

While you wait for Alien: Romulus, the folks over at Devilworks have cooked up their own slice of “mockbuster” fun with Alien Hunt, and we’re debuting the trailer here on BD this morning.

This brand-new sci-fi horror from director Aaron Mirtes (The Bigfoot Trap, Painted in Blood) is set for its US premiere on May 14, and you can find it on digital thanks to Devilworks.

You can exclusively watch the official trailer for Alien Hunt below, which looks to combine elements of Alien and Predator. This particular “mockbuster” has very little interest in hiding its inspirations, with the alien designs plucked straight out of H.R. Giger’s beautiful brain. Hey, if you’re going to pull from other movies, might as well take from the all-time greats!

In Alien Hunt, “On a hunting trip in the wilderness, a group of siblings discovers an abandoned military outpost on their land, but is it what it seems?

“Their trip takes a sinister turn when they find themselves facing off against a relentless army of extra-terrestrial beings. Suddenly, the hunters become the hunted.

“The formidable squad of alien soldiers will stop at nothing to wipe out the enemy and in an all-out, brutal battle for survival, it’s kill or be killed in Alien Hunt.”
