Chris Carter Has Written a Third ‘The X-Files’ Movie!

Published

I’ve already seen the first episode of the return of “The X-Files.” And unlike some of the reviews, I was blown away. What a lot of viewers aren’t going to understand is that the writers behind the revival are taking shit to the ultimate – the biggest conspiracy of them all. I won’t ruin it for you, but I’m sold.

This is especially exciting to this “X-Files” fan because of how much I hated, no, despised the second movie.

Ironically tiled I Want to Believe, all I wanted was to believe there was more in the tank after that stinker. And if the shows returns proves anything, it’s that Chris Carter and company do.

Before FOX even greenlit the tenth season, Carter had already wrote a third film, he revealed to THR at the TCAs.

“I actually wrote a third movie, just because I was interested in the idea of where that might go,” said Carter, who then thought of repurposing the script for the series. “I let my wife read the third movie, and she said ‘I think not for television.’”

We all obviously want to see Agents Mulder (David Duchovny) and Scully (Gillian Anderson) back on the big screen, but there’s no good news here. Carter went on to explain that his interests are solely in television (right now), which means we can expect more seasons if the return fares well.

As for the movie, well, there’s a script. I expect talk of a feature to begin immediately after FOX cancels “The X-Files” for good, in which case we’ll see Netflix or Amazon jump in and save the day. Right? We can all predict the future at this point.

Filming is underway on The Invisible Man director Leigh Whannell’s Wolf Man for Universal and Blumhouse, which will be howling its way into theaters on January 17, 2025.

Deadline reports that Matilda Firth (Disenchanted) is the latest actor to sign on, joining Christopher Abbott (Poor Things),  Julia Garner (The Royal Hotel), and Sam Jaeger.

The project will mark Whannell’s second monster movie and fourth directing collaboration with Blumhouse Productions (The Invisible Man, Upgrade, Insidious: Chapter 3).

Wolf Man stars Christopher Abbott as a man whose family is being terrorized by a lethal predator.

Writers include Whannell & Corbett Tuck as well as Lauren Schuker Blum & Rebecca Angelo.

Jason Blum is producing the film. Ryan Gosling, Ken Kao, Bea Sequeira, Mel Turner and Whannell are executive producers. Wolf Man is a Blumhouse and Motel Movies production.

In the wake of the failed Dark Universe, Leigh Whannell’s The Invisible Man has been the only real success story for the Universal Monsters brand, which has been struggling with recent box office flops including the comedic Renfield and period horror movie The Last Voyage of the Demeter. Giving him the keys to the castle once more seems like a wise idea, to say the least.
