It’s been a little while since we’ve heard anything new regarding Ridley Scott’s upcoming Prometheus sequel/Alien prequel Alien: Covenant, but today brings some new news! The film, which follows Michael Fassbender’s character David, is going to be bringing back the concept of the Xenomorph, which was introduced in the 1979 original sci-fi/horror film Alien, only this time it’s got a new name. Confirmed by AVPGalaxy.net, the new Xenomorph will bear the moniker “Neomorph“.

Now, this name may have only been used during the production as a way to identify the new creature and won’t show up in the final product. However, even that is exciting as “Neo” is the Latin root for something new or recently developed, which suggests we’re in for something fresh rather than a revisit of what we’ve seen before.

The information was originally found in a recent interview Fassbender did on BBC2’s Steve Wright in the Afternoon.

Ridley Scott returns to the universe he created in ‘Alien’ with ‘Alien: Covenant’, the second chapter in a prequel trilogy that began with ‘Prometheus’ — and connects directly to Scott’s 1979 seminal work of science fiction. Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world — whose sole inhabitant is the “synthetic” David (Michael Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.

Michael Fassbender is returning as Prometheus‘ android David, with Katherine Waterston (Inherent Vice, Jobs, The Babysitters) leading a new crew that includes Demian Bichir and Danny McBride (“Eastbound and Down”), as well as Alex England (Gods of Egypt), Billy Crudup, Amy Seimetz (A Horrible Way to Die, “The Killing”), Jussie Smollett (“Empire”), Carmen Ejogo, and Callie Hernandez (Machete Kills).

Alien: Covenant will come to theaters on August 4th, 2017.
