Original ‘Fright Night’ Getting New Blu-ray Release; 4K Restoration!

Last year saw the release of a limited edition Fright Night Blu-ray from Twilight Time, which quickly sold out and has subsequently been fetching ridiculous prices over on eBay. The Blu-ray, limited to just 5,000 copies, often sells for well over $100, but if you decided to hold out rather than drop that kind of money, we’re happy to report that your patience is now rewarded.

UK company Eureka Entertainment will be releasing a brand spankin’ new Fright Night Blu-ray on April 10th, 2017, and the special edition offering boasts a 4K restoration that we cannot wait to sink our fangs into. The Blu-ray/DVD combo pack is already up for pre-order, so if you don’t yet have a region free player, we’re thinking now is the perfect time to grab one.

In Fright Night:

He’s sweet, sexy, and he likes to get in late. You might think he’s the perfect neighbour. But before inviting Jerry in for a nightcap, there’s something you should know. It’s Fright Night, a horrific howl starring Chris Sarandon as the seductive vampire and William Ragsdale as the frantic teenager struggling to keep Jerry’s deadly fangs out of his neck.

Only 17-year-old Charley Brewster (Ragsdale) knows Jerry’s bloodcurdling secret. When Charley can’t get anybody to believe him, he turns to TV horror host Peter Vincent (Roddy McDowall), who used to be the “Great Vampire Killer” of the movies. Can these mortals save Charley and his sweetheart Amy (Amanda Bearse) from the wrathful bloodsucker’s toothy embrace? If you love being scared, Fright Night will give you the nightmare of your life!

Indonesian filmmaker Kimo Stamboel (Macabre, Headshot, The Queen of Black Magic) is back in the director’s chair for MD Pictures’ Badarawuhi Di Desa Penari (aka Dancing Village: The Curse Begins), a prequel to the Indonesian box office hit KKN Curse Of The Dancing Village. Lionsgate brings the film to U.S. theaters on April 26.

In the horror prequel, “A shaman instructs Mila to return a mystical bracelet, the Kawaturih, to the ‘Dancing Village,’ a remote site on the easternmost tip of Java Island. Joined by her cousin, Yuda, and his friends Jito and Arya, Mila arrives on the island only to discover that the village elder has passed away, and that the new guardian, Mbah Buyut, isn’t present.

“Various strange and eerie events occur while awaiting Mbah Buyut’s return, including Mila being visited by Badarawuhi, a mysterious, mythical being who rules the village. When she decides to return the Kawaturih without the help of Mgah Buyut, Mila threatens the village’s safety, and she must join a ritual to select the new ‘Dawuh,’ a cursed soul forced to dance for the rest of her life.”

Kimo Stamboel directs from a screenplay by Lele Laila.

KKN Curse Of The Dancing Village was the highest grossing film in Indonesian box office history when initially released in 2022. Its prequel is the first film made for IMAX movie ever produced in Southeast Asia and in 2024, it will be one of only five films made for IMAX productions worldwide.

Manoj Punjabi produces the Indonesian horror prequel. Punjabi has produced 168 movies, including five of the biggest all-time local box office hits in Indonesia, including KKN Curse Of The Dancing Village and the Stamboel directed Sewu Dino.
