Here’s Another Look at Katherine Waterston in ‘Alien: Covenant’

We’re still waiting on that trailer. It’s coming. Very soon.

Katherine Waterson plays a character named Daniels in next year’s Alien: Covenant, and if the photo we saw earlier this week was any indication, she’s going to be a Xenomorph-slaying badass that Ellen Ripley would be proud of. With her short hair and tanktop, the gun-wielding Daniels looks to be Ripley for a new generation, and on tap today is another look at the character. This one is a behind the scenes shot, and in it Ridley Scott is seen directing Waterston.

The image (below) comes courtesy of Empire, and Waterson explained to the outlet that there’s a primary difference between Daniels and Ripley, at least at the start of the film:

“Unlike Sigourney in Alien, [Daniels] is in a survival mode of sorts from the beginning,” said the actress. “She’s not the captain, but she’s a natural leader so in times of crisis she falls into that position quite easily.”

Waterston (Inherent Vice, Jobs, The Babysitters) heads the new crew with Demian Bichir and Danny McBride (“Eastbound and Down”), as well as Alex England (Gods of Egypt), Billy Crudup, Amy Seimetz (A Horrible Way to Die, “The Killing”), Jussie Smollett (“Empire”), Carmen Ejogo, and Callie Hernandez (Machete Kills). James Franco is also confirmed to be among them all.

Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world — whose sole inhabitant is the “synthetic” David (Michael Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.

Alien: Covenant – here’s everything we know so far – takes off for Paradise on May 19, 2017.

wow. that pic has set off major lowest common denominator cash grab warning bells in my head.
cant believe scott would bother going there.

    • I see what you’re pointing out. Not bothered by it. I do not believe it is though. We shall see.

great…. yet another ripley/shaw character. so original

She looks fine, obviously she’s not going to be dressed like this from the word go, but dang am I tired of the “natural leader” descriptor for characters like this. Ripley, at least in the first movie, was NOT a natural leader! She got disrespected, she got ignored, she had to shout and bellow to be listened to! It’s part of what made the character so great, how until Dallas died there was nothing really sticking out about her to suggest she’d be the final survivor.

She was a by the book rule follower the others on the ship didn’t like. In no way did she scream “leader.” Even with the Marines she was either in the back or by herself for most of the movie.

I kinda hope she dies early in the film to break the trope and have a different kind of character as the main character.

    • THAT!! Would be very interesting. Thanks for actually coming up with another angle rather than just bitching while bringing nothing to the table.
