Fun New AT&T Commercial Pays Tribute to ‘Psycho’ and ‘Ghostbusters’

Stay Puft is back, baby!

Just about a month before the 51st Super Bowl, AT&T just rolled out a commercial that certainly has the feel of, well a Super Bowl commercial. Apparently they didn’t want to wait, and we’re glad they didn’t. Because commercials should be awesome all year round, shouldn’t they? We think they should. And this one, which features two of our favorite icons, totally just won us over.

The new commercial, which runs one-minute long but has been trimmed down for television, stresses the idea that the mobile network allows you to watch your favorite movies and TV shows literally anywhere and at any time. In it, a man walking down the street finds himself inside his favorite movies and shows, which include Rocky, “Cheers,” “Breaking Bad,” and “Knight Rider.” But we’re not here to talk about those references, even if the latter includes a cameo from David Hasselhoff. Because the commercial also pays tribute to both Psycho and Ghostbusters.

The infamous Psycho shower scene is recreated inside a window display that the entertainment-obsessed man walks past, and at the end of the commercial, the big and beautiful Stay Puft Marshmallow Man returns to New York City. He looks like he hasn’t aged a day since ’84!

Why wait for the Super Bowl? Check out the commercial below!

  • Rafael Fernandez

    Too much nostalgia marketing.

  • Hey everybody, watch this ad! It was designed by a soulless marketing team to appeal to your sense of nostalgia! (Shit, are we getting paid for this?)

  • Erik The Red

Lame. Same rehashed shit. Lazy and uncreative advertisers have nothing new to bring to the table except for half assed 80’s nostalgia.
