Guinness World Records Inducts World’s Largest Ouija Board
Well here’s a horror movie waiting to happen.
Located in Windber, Pennsylvania, the historic Grand Midway Hotel was built over 100 years ago and is allegedly haunted; if you’re a fan of the paranormal, there’s a good chance you’ve seen it pop up on any number of ghost-hunting shows. But when filmmaker Blair Murphy bought the hotel and moved in with his family, the paranormal activity in the building seemed to cease.
That is, until he and his girlfriend played with a Ouija board.
“It seemed to kick things up into an entire new level of paranormal activity,” Murphy recalled, speaking with Guinness World Records. But rather than being scared of the uptick in bizarre activity, Murphy was inspired. With the help of eight artists, the hotel’s owner turned the building’s roof into a massive Ouija board, and Guinness just crowned it the largest in the world.
Measuring 121.01 m² (1,302.54 ft²), the rooftop Ouija board was hand-painted by Murphy and his team, and the super-sized planchette is outfitted with a set of three large wheels.
“The hotel roof was this massive blank canvas just waiting for the perfect project to present itself,” said Murphy, “A Ouija world record roof was a perfect match for our place.”
Murphy says that when the weather gets nicer, he and the hotel’s invited guests will head up to the roof and use the record-holding Ouija board to make contact with the dead.
Be careful, guys. If the ghosts are as big as the board, we’re all in trouble!
While you wait for Alien: Romulus, the folks over at Devilworks have cooked up their own slice of “mockbuster” fun with Alien Hunt, and we’re debuting the trailer here on BD this morning.
This brand-new sci-fi horror from director Aaron Mirtes (The Bigfoot Trap, Painted in Blood) is set for its US premiere on May 14, and you can find it on digital thanks to Devilworks.
You can exclusively watch the official trailer for Alien Hunt below, which looks to combine elements of Alien and Predator. This particular “mockbuster” has very little interest in hiding its inspirations, with the alien designs plucked straight out of H.R. Giger’s beautiful brain. Hey, if you’re going to pull from other movies, might as well take from the all-time greats!
In Alien Hunt, “On a hunting trip in the wilderness, a group of siblings discovers an abandoned military outpost on their land, but is it what it seems?
“Their trip takes a sinister turn when they find themselves facing off against a relentless army of extra-terrestrial beings. Suddenly, the hunters become the hunted.
“The formidable squad of alien soldiers will stop at nothing to wipe out the enemy and in an all-out, brutal battle for survival, it’s kill or be killed in Alien Hunt.”
