Ryan Reynolds Drops a ‘Re-Animator’ Reference in New ‘Life’ Vignette

This is some re-animator stuff.”

It’s impossible to watch the trailers and TV spots for Life and not compare it to Ridley Scott’s Alien, a film it sure seems to owe a great debt to. Centered on a space crew that encounters life on Mars, Daniel Espinosa’s sci-fi thriller hits theaters on March 24th, and ahead of the release Sony has uploaded a new vignette video that features insights from smart science dudes.

Nothing special, but worth sharing for those looking forward to this one.

Jake Gyllenhaal stars alongside Rebecca Ferguson, Ryan Reynolds, Hiroyuki Sanada, Ariyon Bakare, and Olga Dihovichnaya.

Life tells the story of the six-member crew of the International Space Station that is on the cutting edge of one of the most important discoveries in human history: the first evidence of extraterrestrial life on Mars. As the crew begins to conduct research, their methods end up having unintended consequences and the life form proves more intelligent than anyone ever expected.

Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (Zombieland) wrote the script.

This does not remind me of Alien at all.. when I saw this I thought it was a remake of HBO’s sci fi anthology series “Perversions of Science” the episode “Snap Ending” with Will Wheaton and Sean Astin about 4 astronauts who find some strange contaminant and end up turning against one another.

    • Looking into this. Thank you.

the description does SOUND more Alien.. but the trailer I saw.. really downplays the alien thing.. and seems to focus on paranoia between the crew.. so.. I guess this movie could go either way.. but if you can find it, check out the episode “Snap Ending”.. I actually wouldn’t mind seeing a more sharply crafted and better fleshed out version of it.. it was a messed up story.

Perversions of science was great, shame there was only one series.

I think this looks good. But a movie in space with a hostile “alien” life form doesn’t mean it’s like or a rip off of “Alien.”

  • I saw what was aimed at ALIEN fans & that was cool. I also see more and more content coming out for this film that is nothing like ALIEN. I feel the same way I did when that, dare I say ‘controversy’ was on going, I DON’T CARE THE MORE THRILLER/HORROR SPACE MOVIES THE BETTER!
