‘The Purge 4’ Parody Trailer Gets Even More Political Than ‘Election Year’

Last year’s The Purge: Election Year was nothing if not topical, hitting theaters just a few months before the real-life presidential election. Horror movies have a history of not shying away from making political statements, and though The Purge franchise may have a very on-the-nose way of doing that, it’s nevertheless admirable to see a big horror franchise tackling big issues.

Will Universal’s just announced fourth installment in the series, set for release on July 4th, 2018, delve deeper into the politics present in Election Year? We’ll soon find out.

In the meantime, the folks over on YouTube channel Hilarity Ensues just put together their own parody trailer for The Purge 4, which most definitely makes a political statement. In the 40-second faux trailer, a familiar-looking dude with terrible hair is about to exercise his right to Purge when a group of masked maniacs break into the White House and interrupt the party.

‘Drop’ – Violett Beane Joins the Cast of Christopher Landon’s New Thriller

Christopher Landon (Happy Death Day, Freaky) is staying busy here in 2024, directing not only the werewolf movie Big Bad but also an upcoming thriller titled Drop.

The project for Blumhouse and Platinum Dunes is being described as a “fast-paced thriller,” and Deadline reports today that Violett Beane (Truth or Dare) has joined the cast.

Newcomer Jacob Robinson has also signed on to star in the mysterious thriller. Previously announced, Meghann Fahy (“White Lotus”) will be leading the cast.

Landon recently teased on Twitter, “This is my love letter to DePalma.”

Jillian Jacobs and Chris Roach wrote the script.

Michael Bay, Jason Blum, Brad Fuller and Cameron Fuller — “who brought the script in to Platinum Dunes” — are producing the upcoming Drop. Sam Lerner is an executive producer.

THR notes, “The film is a Platinum Dunes and Blumhouse production for Universal.”
