New Line Developing ‘The Wizard of Oz’ Horror Film; First Details

As if the flying monkeys weren’t already scary enough!

THR is reporting tonight that New Line Cinema has snagged a pitch from writer Mike Van Waes for an original horror film set within the world of The Wizard of Oz. We don’t yet know exactly what that means, but the site notes that the now-in-development film will have ties to the universe created in the 1900 novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum.

That novel of course became the classic 1939 film starring Judy Garland. The story was most recently adapted by Sam Raimi, who directed the 2013 film Oz the Great and Powerful.

In The Wizard of Oz…

Dorothy Gale is swept away from a farm in Kansas to a magical land of Oz in a tornado and embarks on a quest with her new friends to see the Wizard who can help her return home in Kansas and help her friends as well.

More details as we receive them.

A yoga influencer discovers just how flexible fear can be in Mind Body Spirit, a new found footage horror movie that Welcome Villain Films is bringing to the table in a couple weeks.

Mind Body Spirit will release on Digital outlets May 7.

In Mind Body Spirit, “Anya, an aspiring yoga influencer, embarks on a ritual practice left behind by her estranged grandmother. She documents the practice on her YouTube channel for the world to watch, allowing her audience intimate access to her journey.

“But what starts as a spiritual self-help guide evolves into something much more sinister. As Anya becomes obsessed with the mysterious power of the practice, she unwittingly unleashes an otherworldly entity that begins to take control of her life – and her videos. Now Anya must race to unlock the truth, before her descent into madness threatens to consume her mind, body and spirit. By the time she reveals the true nature of the ritual, will it be too late?”

Mind Body Spirit was written and directed by Alex Henes & Matthew Merenda.

The upcoming horror film stars Sarah J. Bartholomew, Madi Bready, KJ Flahive, Anna Knigge, and Kristi Noory, and was produced by Dan Asma and Jesse McClung.
