Tilda Swinton is Rocking Crazy Old Age Makeup On ‘Suspiria’ Set

Well now this is something else.

Italian filmmaker Luca Guadagnino is helming Amazon Studios’ remake of Dario Argento’s Suspiria, which is apparently not really a remake at all. Star Mia Goth recently told us that it’s a visually stunning love letter to Argento’s film rather than a straight up remake, and from what we gather, all parties involved are intent on doing this one justice. For now, we’re keeping our hopes up.

Starring alongside Goth, Chloe Grace-Moretz, and Dakota Johnson is Tilda Swinton (Doctor Strange), who is apparently playing a character much older than herself in the film. IMDb lists her as Madame Blanc (a character from the original), and some new photos that have just come in from the set show that she’s going to be rocking some pretty serious old-age makeup.

Is there anything Swinton *can’t* do?

In Suspiria:

A young American ballet dancer travels to a prestigious dance academy in Europe, only to discover it is something far more sinister and supernatural. She becomes increasingly terrified after a series of gruesome murders ensue and she slowly unravels the dark history of the academy.

David Kajganich penned the script.

Tilda is such a gorgeous, odd duck. When I read this headline, I flashed back to The Grand Budapest Hotel:

I love Tilda Swinton and I have high hopes for the new Suspiria! 🙂

So this is really happening then. Well, it has some pedigree so hope it turns out well. Tough road to hoe, though.

Is it though? What did Suspiria really have beyond it’s visuals? Messy plot, flat characters, the usual Argento flimsy logic. You can only go up from an Argento foundation.

    Love tilda

I’m slightly confused as she appears to be playing a MAN ?
But if anyone can pull it off it’s Swinton .

yeah, she definitely looks like she’s playing a man (at least in the pic from that link).

      • Simon Allen

        Right ?!?
Great make up job though .

I’m willing to bet the makeup will come off after a sacrificial killing of one of the characters.

    Tilda truly is amazing.

Cant stand her as an actor or a person

Here’s some speculation and spoilers : In the original movie, the relationship between Markos and her coven isn’t really well defined. Actually to be fair, absolutely nothing about anything in Suspiria is well defined, much to my annoyance. But whatever the case, the remake has an opportunity to capitalize on the workings of Markos’ coven.

Being paint-by-numbers probably, I imagine this remake will add in that the coven are sacrificing young women, so that they can maintain their health and beauty. So after one of the sacrifices, Tilda’s frumpy oldman/woman makeup will be removed, and she’ll be used as an example of the seductive power to bring Chloe’s character into the fold.

I’m not a big fan of remakes or reboots but this is a movie that could be good if done right and I think that they have put a pretty good cast together so I guess we can only hope for the best!

You can’t be worse than the original, because outside of the visuals, the original is just as terrible as anything else Argento does. The man can’t carry a story to save his life, and when he doesn’t even have good cinematography, it’s a hundred times worse. See Dracula 3D for my irrefutable point.

They can only improve on Suspiria as long as they have the original look down pat ontop of even attempting the semblance of an actual plot.
