One of the fun things about the Tremors movies is that they’re always expanding upon the creature mythology of the franchise. The Graboids were the villains of the first film, while the second and third installments introduced the Shriekers and Ass Blasters. Most recently, we met the Grabbers in Tremors 5: Bloodlines. What will they think of next? We’ve got a little tease for ya.
Earlier today I had a brief Facebook chat with Tremors 6 director Don Michael Paul, hopeful that I could pull some juicy tidbits out of him. Since the new installment in the series is set in the arctic tundra, I wondered if we’d perhaps be seeing a new breed of arctic Graboid; the director’s lips were pretty tightly sealed, but he did list off some things we can expect from the film:
I can’t tell you a whole but I hope the next installment will be as Bloody Disgusting as you would like!!!! What might you see?! Burt doing his thing!!!! Graboids doing their thing! Ass Blasters pouncing! Graboid goop and gore! And you might get an icy glimpse of a Dirt Devil as you’ve never seen before!!!!
An icy “dirt devil” we’ve never seen before… we like the sound of that!
In the film…
Burt Gummer (Michael Gross) and his son Travis Welker (Jamie Kennedy) find themselves up to their ears in Graboids and Ass-Blasters when they head to Canada to investigate a series of deadly giant-worm attacks. Arriving at a remote research facility in the artic tundra, Burt begins to suspect that Graboids are secretly being weaponized, but before he can prove his theory, he is sidelined by Graboid venom. With just 48 hours to live, the only hope is to create an antidote from fresh venom — but to do that, someone will have to figure out how to milk a Graboid!
Gross and Kennedy are joined by franchise newcomers Tanya van Graan (Death Race: Inferno, Zulu), Rob van Vuuren (Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom) and Greg Kriek (Momentum).
John Whelpley (Tremors 5: Bloodlines) wrote the script.
Tremors 6 will be released on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital HD in 2018 from Universal 1440 Entertainment, a production entity of Universal Pictures Home Entertainment.
