Check Out This ‘Escape From New York’ Remake Fan Trailer

Published

In case you haven’t heard, Fox is still very much planning on remaking John Carpenter’s Escape from New York. They want another science fiction/action franchise to add to their roster alongside AlienPredator, and Planet of the Apes, and they think Snake Plissken is their man for the job.

Last week, it was reported that Robert Rodriguez (DesperadoGrindhouse) was in early talks to direct the redo, which is being written by Neil Cross and produced by Carpenter. The internet will no doubt be a flutter all weekend with cries of terror and joy, as well as a never-ending sea of fancasting.

In the spirit of this, I’d like to share a fan trailer over on Cinema Runner that was made two years ago, right after Fox scooped up the rights…

Christopher Landon (Happy Death Day, Freaky) is staying busy here in 2024, directing not only the werewolf movie Big Bad but also an upcoming thriller titled Drop.

The project for Blumhouse and Platinum Dunes is being described as a “fast-paced thriller,” and Deadline reports today that Violett Beane (Truth or Dare) has joined the cast.

Newcomer Jacob Robinson has also signed on to star in the mysterious thriller. Previously announced, Meghann Fahy (“White Lotus”) will be leading the cast.

Landon recently teased on Twitter, “This is my love letter to DePalma.”

Jillian Jacobs and Chris Roach wrote the script.

Michael Bay, Jason Blum, Brad Fuller and Cameron Fuller — “who brought the script in to Platinum Dunes” — are producing the upcoming Drop. Sam Lerner is an executive producer.

THR notes, “The film is a Platinum Dunes and Blumhouse production for Universal.”
