“Masters of Horror” Creator Mick Garris Developing New Horror Anthology

Published

on

The world could always use more horror anthologies.

Remember the Showtime series “Masters of Horror”? The show, which spanned two seasons and 26 episodes, featured new horror films from masters like John Carpenter, John Landis and Tobe Hooper, and it was the brainchild of Mick Garris. A master in his own right, Garris has directed everything from Critters 2 to The Shining miniseries, and he’s got more horror on the way.

In an interview with Nerdist, Garris just let it slip that he’s working on a new horror anthology!

Garris told the site:

I’m working on putting together an anthology movie that will be coming together very soon. It’s kind of secret right now but we are well into it and just making something I think, for genre fans of which I count myself one, will be very, very happy with and excited about.

He didn’t dig any deeper into the project, but we can’t help but wonder if Garris has once again put together an all-star team to make something special for us fans. Garris also created the NBC anthology series “Fear Itself,” so he’s certainly got a knack for bringing together fan-favorite horror filmmakers and letting them do their thing. Could the new film be an extension of that?

We’ll report more as we learn it.

Filming is underway on The Invisible Man director Leigh Whannell’s Wolf Man for Universal and Blumhouse, which will be howling its way into theaters on January 17, 2025.

Deadline reports that Matilda Firth (Disenchanted) is the latest actor to sign on, joining Christopher Abbott (Poor Things),  Julia Garner (The Royal Hotel), and Sam Jaeger.

The project will mark Whannell’s second monster movie and fourth directing collaboration with Blumhouse Productions (The Invisible Man, Upgrade, Insidious: Chapter 3).

Wolf Man stars Christopher Abbott as a man whose family is being terrorized by a lethal predator.

Writers include Whannell & Corbett Tuck as well as Lauren Schuker Blum & Rebecca Angelo.

Jason Blum is producing the film. Ryan Gosling, Ken Kao, Bea Sequeira, Mel Turner and Whannell are executive producers. Wolf Man is a Blumhouse and Motel Movies production.

In the wake of the failed Dark Universe, Leigh Whannell’s The Invisible Man has been the only real success story for the Universal Monsters brand, which has been struggling with recent box office flops including the comedic Renfield and period horror movie The Last Voyage of the Demeter. Giving him the keys to the castle once more seems like a wise idea, to say the least.
