Fan Cuts Trailer for the Darth Vader Slasher Movie We Need

Published

Now this is a Star Wars movie I can get behind.

Admittedly, I’m not a huge fan of the Star Wars saga. It’s not that I don’t enjoy the movies, but rather that I just never got too into them. That being said, I loved The Force Awakens and dug Rogue One. In the latter film, I particularly enjoyed (as did EVERYONE) the Darth Vader massacre scene at the end. It was a badass moment ripped straight out of a horror film.

I remember coming home from the theater and hopping on the phone with a friend to talk about Rogue One. As you might imagine, we spent most of the conversation talking about THAT scene, imagining how cool it would be to see a full-on Darth Vader horror film. The hallway lightsaber massacre whet my appetite for such a film, and I certainly wasn’t the only one.

Granted, it’s unlikely that Disney will be delving too far into the horror genre with any of their Star Wars films; but with the universe getting all sorts of expansions, it’s not all that hard to imagine Darth Vader getting his own movie that’s a bit darker than what we’ve come to expect from the franchise. Rogue One made Vader a scary villain again, so why not lean into that?

YouTuber FlamingoIsland is hungry for a Darth Vader slasher film, and he just cut together a trailer that imagines what that movie could look like. He even came up with the plot:

After the events of Order 66, the presence of Jedi has been diminished. The Emperor has ordered Darth Vader to purge the remaining Jedi. VADER: A Star Wars Story follows a small group of Jedi who must survive the final Jedi Purge.

Check out the fan trailer below, along with FlamingoIsland’s pitch for “the spin-off we need“!

Dev Patel’s ‘Monkey Man’ Is Now Available to Watch at Home!

After pulling in $28 million at the worldwide box office this month, director (and star) Dev Patel’s critically acclaimed action-thriller Monkey Man is now available to watch at home.

You can rent Monkey Man for $19.99 or digitally purchase the film for $24.99!

Monkey Man is currently 88% Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, with Bloody Disgusting’s head critic Meagan Navarro awarding the film 4.5/5 stars in her review out of SXSW back in March.

Meagan raves, “While the violence onscreen is palpable and painful, it’s not just the exquisite fight choreography and thrilling action set pieces that set Monkey Man apart but also its political consciousness, unique narrative structure, and myth-making scale.”

“While Monkey Man pays tribute to all of the action genre’s greats, from the Indonesian action classics to Korean revenge cinema and even a John Wick joke or two, Dev Patel’s cultural spin and unique narrative structure leave behind all influences in the dust for new terrain,” Meagan’s review continues.

She adds, “Monkey Man presents Dev Patel as a new action hero, a tenacious underdog with a penetrating stare who bites, bludgeons, and stabs his way through bodies to gloriously bloody excess. More excitingly, the film introduces Patel as a strong visionary right out of the gate.”

Inspired by the legend of Hanuman, Monkey Man stars Patel as Kid, an anonymous young man who ekes out a meager living in an underground fight club where, night after night, wearing a gorilla mask, he is beaten bloody by more popular fighters for cash. After years of suppressed rage, Kid discovers a way to infiltrate the enclave of the city’s sinister elite. As his childhood trauma boils over, his mysteriously scarred hands unleash an explosive campaign of retribution to settle the score with the men who took everything from him.

Monkey Man is produced by Jordan Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions.
