Director J.A. Bayona (The Orphanage, A Monster Calls) is at the helm of the upcoming Jurassic World 2, and quite some time ago he teased that the sequel would be a bit scarier than its predecessor – hearkening back, perhaps, to Jurassic Park, which wasn’t far off from being a horror movie. Is he going to deliver on that promise? According to Chris Pratt, you betcha!

Speaking with Screen Rant, Pratt threw around words like “scary” and “dark” to describe Bayona’s vision for 2018’s return to the dinosaur-infested theme park:

Aw man, J.A. Bayona? Do you know that filmmaker? He’s a remarkable filmmaker. If you haven’t seen The Impossible or A Monster Calls, I mean he’s really visually masterful. Deep emotions and suspense. I think it’s going to be a scarier version. A little bit darker and will continue to expand and carry the story forward in a way that is really unexpected and you wouldn’t have imagined.

The new film’s cast includes the returning Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard alongside Ted Levine, Daniella Pineda, Geraldine Chaplin, Justice Smith, Rafe Spall and Toby Jones.

Colin Trevorrow co-wrote the screenplay with Derek Connolly, and will exec produce with Steven Spielberg. Belén Atienza, Patrick Crowley and Frank Marshall will produce.

The 2015 feature grossed $1.67 billion at the global box office, becoming the fourth highest-grossing movie of all time.

The park opens again on June 22, 2018.
